Israeli Apartheid Week 2014 – Event Guide for Ireland

Israeli Apartheid Week 2014

1st – 8th March

Celebrating 10 years! Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual international series of events (including rallies, lectures, performances, films, multimedia displays and protest actions) held in cities and campuses across the globe. Last year was incredibly successful with over 215 cities taking part. IAW aims to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies towards the Palestinians and to build support for the growing campaign of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel.
Once again the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is proud to be hosting a series of events in Ireland.

IAW 2014 takes place following several years of incredible successes for the BDS movement on the global level. Our events will highlight the many injustices that continue to make BDS so crucial in the struggle against apartheid and for freedom, justice, equality, and peace. For international IAW events see the Israeli Apartheid Week 2014 website here.

Below you will find a full listing of events taking place around Ireland during this year’s IAW. We hope you will be able to make it along to some of them.

Dates (March 1 – 8): Saturday 1stMonday 3rdTuesday 4thWednesday 5thThursday 6thFriday 7th

Saturday 1st March – [Dublin] Boycott Israeli Goods Day of Action

Assemble at 2pm at the Spire on O’Connell Street, Dublin 1.

To kick off Israeli Apartheid Week, we ask you to join us for a Boycott Israeli Goods day of action. We will be visiting city centre shops stocking Israeli goods, making consumers aware of their presence and the connection between these products and Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

After the action, we will remain on the streets collecting signatures asking the Dunnes Stores to publicly commit to ceasing all trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine.

Israeli exports – from both the illegal settlements and inside Israel – contribute to the economy of Israel’s apartheid occupation regime and the oppression of the Palestinian people. Indeed, the Israeli government is dependent on a strong export-orientated economy and Europe is Israel’s largest trading partner.

Organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Thursday 6th March – [Dublin] Lunchtime Vigil – End EU Facilitation of Israeli Apartheid

We ask you to join us for a lunchtime vigil outside EU House, Molesworth St, Dublin 2 from 1-2pm to highlight the EU’s ongoing facilitation of Israel’s apartheid policies and war crimes.

Despite Israel’s ongoing breeches of international law and flagrant human right abuses, the European Union continues to reward and cosy up to Israel; Israel’s constant violations of the 2012 ceasefire terms, repeated violent provocations in the West Bank, and continued illegal settlement construction and colonisation appear to have little affect on this relationship.

We will be highlighting the role of the Euro-Med Agreement whose operation is tantamount to rewarding Israel for its oppression of the Palestinians, granting Israel special EU trading privileges, despite Israel’s breaches of the human rights clause (Article II).
