Are you interested in taking Palestinian Arabic Classes?

Postcards from Gaza, a small, awareness-raising, arts project set up in Spring 2013, aims to encourage direct interaction between students in Gaza and the outside world.

Media distortion and the restrictions of occupation mean that the message of the daily struggles, hopes and needs of Gazans is often lost and so last year, a handful of postcards were sent from Gaza City to addresses across the globe; from China to Argentina. This project has followed the cards, and subsequent batches, as they have travelled around the world carrying messages written by Gazans themselves.

Now, as part of the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the founders are hoping to exhibit the photos taken of cards at their destinations at a small solidarity festival in September. In preparation for the festival they, along with other members of the 2013 Trocaire/Glencree Forum for Peace and Justice in Palestine, will be learning Palestinian Arabic in the hope of promoting cultural understanding and perhaps even sending messages back to the Gazan students in their own language.

Comhlamh will be hosting the beginners class starting this April and running for 10 weeks.  There are a few places open, at a reduced rate of €100, for Comhlamh members who wish to take part this month, or who may be interested in further classes later in the year.  If you would like more information about the classes or are interested in receiving a postcard from Gaza please contact Jennifer at postcardsfromgaza [at] gmail.com or get in touch through Facebook. The first class is on Monday 28th April.
