[Palestine/Israel] International Volunteer Program in Palestinian Communities in Israel (Mossawa Center)
In July 2012, the Mossawa Center will host its second international volunteer program for young adults, aged between 20 and 30, to learn about the lives of the Palestinian community in Israel.
Volunteers from the region and abroad will travel across the country visiting and working in local communities. The community service work will be followed by a recreational tour to different regions to learn about Palestinian culture, customs and heritage. The tour also aims at building relationships between Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line and youth from all over the world.
In July 2011, the Mossawa Center successfully launched its first international volunteer program. The site visits during the program each told important chapters of the Palestinian narrative. Destinations included Haifa, Taibeh, Tamra, the destroyed village of Al-Damun, the Negev Bedouin village of Al Araqib, which has been repeatedly razed over the past year, and the Occupied Golan Heights.
“It was one of the most meaningful experiences that I have had. I understood why we were there because we were able to experience first-hand the daily lives of Arabs in Israel. The impact we were able to make in one week was impressive.”
