[Galway] Film Screening: Small Hands in Handcuffs + Q&A with Director (Independent)

Film Screening of Small Hands in Handcuffs by Anrai Carroll, plus Q&A with the Director on Thursday 19th June 2014, in The Imperial Hotel, Eyre Sqaure, Galway. Starts 8pm, admittance free.

In Oct 2013, 16 year old Anrai Carroll from Ireland travelled to Palestine to make a film on child arrests. Armed with two tiny video camera and with little prior video experience, he travelled with his mum to the West Bank where he met and interviewed two boys his own age to hear what its like to be arrested in the middle of the night by the Israeli Army and to live in fear of that knock on the door at 2am in the morning.

It was originally meant to be a short youtube video meant for Anrai’s friends in Waterford, but grew into a 45min documentary charting Anrai’s journey, both the physical journey from Ireland and the psychological journey from boy to young man. It started out as just the two of them, a teenager and his single parent mum, very little money, two tiny borrowed cameras, and the determination that the world must know about child arrests in Palestine.

News spread on Facebook and the “film crew” grew as they progressed……bits of the sound were done in Qatar, The Real News, via Addameer and other Activists from around the world donated footage, Galway man, Tommy Donnellan gave them full access to his footage, Jewish Voice for Peace gave them an animation piece, photographs from the child arrest came via Maria Schaffluetzel in Switzerland and we even got footage (of the road from Ramallah to Nablus which we needed) from a Syrian woman……the music came from Palestinian/South African Band the Mavrix. It was a global affair!!!

Come meet Anrai and his mum, watch the film and join in the Q and A session afterwards/
Adm Free…..donations accepted for Addameer Prisoners Rights organisation Palestine.
