[Dublin] The Palestine Lectures #2: Global and Israeli Jewish support for Palestinian rights (Pal Ed)

On Wednesday 30th January at 6.30pm you are cordially invited to attend a public lecture exploring Jewish-Palestinian solidarity.  In what is a fascinating but rarely commented upon topic, Professor David Landy will challenge the notion that the conflict in Palestine is a zero-sum game pitting Arab against Jew; instead he will illuminate the role many Jews are playing in championing the human rights of Palestinians.  Hosted by the Palestine Education Initiative, this is the second in a series of six Dublin lectures to be delivered by noted academics and activists.

When: 6.30pm, Wednesday 30th January 2013

Where:  Irish Aid Centre, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1

Description:

Although Israel promotes itself as the Jewish state and frequently portrays those who oppose its policies as being either overt or covert anti-Semites, what is often left unacknowledged is that an increasing number of Jews challenge both the idea of Zionism and its treatment of Palestinians. In this lecture Professor David Landy, drawing upon his own research, will explore the extent, importance and message of these dissident voices. Speaking of Professor Landy’s 2011 book, Jewish Identity and Palestinian Rights: Diaspora Jewish Opposition to Israel, leading Palestinian activist Omar Barghouti hailed it as, “A critical book that convincingly counters Zionism’s ghettoism and negation of Jewish universalism.” Opportunities for questions and discussion will also be available at the close.

There will also be opportunities for questions and discussion.
