[Dublin] Solidarity vigil with Khader Adnan, Palestinian political prisoner and hunger striker

On Monday 13th February, from 10am to 2.30pm, the IPSC will be holding a morning/afternoon Solidarity Vigil in support of Palestinian political prisoner and hunger striker Khader Adnan. The vigil will take place outside the Israeli Embassy, 122 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. While people will maintain a token presence from 10am, we are especially asking people to come down and support the vigil at lunchtime (12pm-2pm).

Who is Khader Adnan?

Since he was arrested by the Israeli military in mid December, Khader Adnan Mousa has been on hunger strike.

At the time of writing (10/04/2012) he has gone 56 days without food and has entered the fatal high risk stage of starvation. From the 45th day onwards he has run the risk of death due to vascular system collapse and/or cardiac arrest. He is currently shackled to his hospital bed and, no family member was allowed to visit him until February seventh. He is expected to die within the week unless a resolution is reached

Kaher was arrested under the Israeli system of administrative detention, under which a prisoner can be held for six months without charge. Once the six month limit has been reached, the detention can then be renewed indefinitely. He has yet to be charged with a crime.

PALESTINIAN POLITICAL PRISONERS

As of 1 January 2012, there were 4,417 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centres, including 132 children. 310 of these prisoners are being held under administrative detention. These prisoners are usually tried in military courts and are often prevented from contacting their families.
