[Dublin] 6th Annual Pub Quiz for Palestinian students (Ind)

The 6th annual Pub Quiz to raise money for Palestinian university students (Al Najah University in Nablus) and the Arab Women’s Union Special Needs School Summer Camp in Bethlehem.

Thursday 10th October 2013, Break for the Border, Stephens’ Street, Dublin 2

Teams of 4/5 (€10 per team member), starting at 7.30pm (quiz starts at 8pm SHARP). We will have a raffle also on the night, with lots of prizes.

We are acutely aware that everyone is feeling the pinch and we’d like to express our sincere thanks for your support!

To date we have sponsored over 15 students through a full year in various fields of study at An Najah University in co-operation with the Right to Education Campaign (10 have now graduated). These students must overcome checkpoints and Israeli soldiers every day to get to lectures. Some days the checkpoints are not even opened meaning that their education is in jeopardy. Our financial support makes it possible for these students to continue their study in the hope of a better future.

The remainder of our fundraising sponsors a 2-week summer camp each year in Al Basma Special Needs Centre. Our sponsorship helps put a smile on the kids’ faces!

About us:  We travelled to the West Bank in February 2008 and on our return, appalled at the situation there, we decided that we wanted to do something to help. We agreed to focus our efforts on third level education at An Najah University in Nablus and a special needs centre in Bethlehem called “Al Basma” meaning smile in Arabic.

This is an unaffiliated event arising from a group of us who visited Palestine in February 2008. There were four of us who decided to do something positive for Palestine after the visit, and while it is not a lot in global terms, we feel that doing a little is better than otherwise doing nothing.
