Mazin will discuss how Palestine evolved as a global issue and why the situation does matter to people of all backgrounds globally. He will discuss the challenge of bringing peace with justice in this last persistent colonial/apartheid system. There is hope due to persistent Palestinian resistance, growing global support (e.g. via
boycotts, divestments, and sanctions), and the blatant zionist propaganda and oppression. The global geopolitical landscape is shifting now and he will discuss why these changes will be reflected in the acceleration of decolonization.

Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh, originally from Beit Sahour near Bethlehem, spent many years working at prestigious universities in the US before returning to serve his homeland. He is founder and volunteer director of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University (http://palestinenature.org). He has published over 160 scientific papers, over 30 book chapters, and several books on topics ranging from cultural heritage to human rights to biodiversity conservation to cancer. He serves on the board of a number of Palestinian youth and service organizations (see also http://qumsiyeh.org) and oversees many projects related to sustainability of human and natural communities. A 2020 laureate of the Paul K. Feyerabend Foundation award (which acknowledges and encourages remarkable accomplishments that represent a true source of inspiration), and the 2019 recipient of the Takreem award that honors Arab leading accomplishments (for environmental work).
