About this event

You are invited to an evening of celebration for the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly called for the annual observance of the 29th of November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Since then, NGOs in Ireland, including Development Perspectives and Trócaire, have continued to observe this day.

Evening activities:

1. The Control of Economic Activities (Occupied Territories) Bill: Senator Frances Black, who introduced this important Bill to the Seanad, will join us to discuss its background and progress in the Oireachtas, and how people can take action to help it become law. Further information on the Bill can be found here – https://www.trocaire.org/news/what-you-need-know-about-occupied-territories-bill

2. Palestinian food from Izz Cafe: Izz and Eman from one of Cork’s most exciting new restaurants, Izz Cafe, will join us on the evening to provide samples of delicious Palestinian food. They will share the story of their journey to Ireland and how they are using food as a common denominator for peace and justice. https://www.facebook.com/www.izz.ie/?ref=py_c

3. Screening of Sumud, Everyday Resistance: This award winning short film examines life under Israeli military occupation in the West Bank, told through the stories of Palestinian women.

Organising team: The evening is being organised by Trócaire and Development Perspectives. The event is in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

A special thank you to Senator Frances Black and her team, and to Izz Cafe for contributing to this event.Further information: stephanie@developmentperspectives.ie
