[Belfast] Support Camp Palestine (IPSC & IFOP)
‘Camp Palestine’ is being set up to mark the United Nations designated ‘International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People’ *. It is being organised jointly by Belfast IPSC and the Irish Friends of Palestine – Beal Feirste. Various activities are planned for the day and we will be camping overnight in solidarity with the homeless & dispossessed of Gaza and the West Bank.
Our aim is to remind the public that Gaza is still suffering the terrible results of the Israeli summer assault: Trauma, grief, homelessness, destroyed industries – while in the West Bank illegal Israeli settler expansion, together with the Occupation, are making life unbearable for the Palestinian population.
The 29th November is the UN-designated International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. To mark the occasion a ‘Camp Palestine’ is to be set up in Belfast on the old Andersonstown Barracks site and will remain there until early the following day. This event is being organised jointly by the Belfast branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Irish Friends of Palestine – Beal Feirste. The plan is for a family-oriented day of activities followed by a ‘camp-out’. Participants will camp on the site overnight in solidarity with those who’ve had their houses destroyed in Gaza and the West Bank, either through Israeli bombs or house demolitions.
Now that the spotlight has moved away from Gaza and people are taken up with the ‘Festive Season’, the aim of the organisers is to remind the public that the people of Gaza have been left with appalling problems following the Israeli summer assault – while in the West Bank, the relentless expansion of illegal Israeli settlement, including within arab East Jerusalem, together with the decades-long military Occupation is making life intolerable for the native Palestinians, a situation which can only lead to more violence and death.
