Watch our Palestinian Prisoners’ Day message and take action for political prisoners

Today, April 17 is Palestinian Prisoners Day, the day of international solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners in Apartheid Israel’s jails. This year, there are more than 5,000 political prisoners incarcerated by apartheid regime, including more than 180 children, over 40 women and 430 people interned without charge or trail. Not only do all of them face the very grave threat of the Covid-19 virus spreading in such enclosed spaces, they also face the problem of widespread medical negligence by Israeli prison authorities. International Women’s Day message from IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi

Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi was a speaker alongside the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, author Nell Regan, the indomitable community workers Rita Fegan and Fidelma Bonass at an International Women’s Day event in Dublin’s Richmond Barracks, organised by the St. Michaels Estate Family Resource Centre. Ms. Tamimi’s speech praised the role of women in the Palestinian fight for freedom, justice and equality, and located the struggle for Palestinian liberty within the broader struggle against oppression and injustice everywhere. IPSC Statement on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Today, November 29th, is International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and we in the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) send greetings of solidarity from Ireland to Palestinians everywhere as they struggle for their freedom and self-determination. Portadown IPSC/Gaza women’s project – latest update

In the aftermath of destructive military onslaught on Gaza by Israeli forces which cost the lives of over 2,000 Palestinians in 2014, Portadown IPSC made contact with community workers in Khan Younis to establish a means of providing material assistance to those most affected by the conflict. A proposal was received back from Gaza in relation to a potential project which sought to provide direct assistance to women in those families where the main bread-winner was either killed or seriously injured as a result of the Israeli bombardment. Today, April 17th, is Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. Yesterday IPSC branches in Dublin and Portadown hosted information stalls dedicated to the issue of political prisoners in Apartheid Israel’s jails – where torture and other physical and psychological ill treatment, denial of visitation rights, terrible food and appalling conditions are routine. Since 1967 Israeli has imprisoned over 800,000 Palestinians – around 1/4 of the male population in the OPT – and currently holds over 7,640 political prisoners, including 700 internees, 68 women and 420 children, the youngest being a 12-year-old girl. Gaza women’s project reaching fruition through Portadown IPSC support

A project in the Khan Younis area of Gaza, directly supported by the Portadown branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), will see training and employment opportunities created for at least sixty women in war-devastated region. In the aftermath of last year’s military onslaught on Gaza by Israeli forces which cost the lives of over 2,000 Palestinians, a number of people in Portadown who had previously been involved in various initiatives relating to Palestine came together to form a local branch of the Ireland Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. In Pictures: Palestinian Prisoners’ Day protest in Dublin

On Thursday 16th April the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a solidarity action for Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli jails at the top of Grafton Street. For an hour members and supporters, including many from the Palestinian community stood with placards, banners and flags in very effective visual display to get the message out to the public about the appalling plight of the Palestinian prisoners. Infographic: Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails (April 2014)

According to Addameer, the Palestinian prisoner support and human rights association, as of 1st February 2015 (the latest date for which figures are available) there were 6,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails. Of these, 454 were held under Administrative Detention (indefinitely renewable internment without charge or trial), 163 were minors, and 25 were female.
