On April 15th Fianna Fail and Fine Gael published a ‘framework document’ for the formation of the next government. Unfortunately this document does not contain any commitment to passing the Occupied Territories Bill that would ban trade with Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However it is important to note that, as Fianna Gael Chairman Martin Hayden said, “this is not a program for government, but starting point to facilitate negotiations with smaller parties and independents in order to develop a government.” Furthermore, Fianna Fáil TDs have indicated to us that they would like to see the Occupied Territories Bill form … Continue reading →

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity (IPSC) campaign stands with the millions of Palestinians all over the world who have condemned and rejected the Trump Administration’s so-called ‘Deal of the Century’, which yesterday was unveiled in full. IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi, herself a Palestinian, said: “This is not a deal, this is a re-partitioning of Palestine accompanied by a list of unacceptable demands placed upon the Palestinian people insisting upon our total surrender; namely the renunciation of our human, national, democratic, territorial and economic rights – not least the right of return for millions of refugees, the right to self-determination in our … Continue reading →

You. Have. Been. Amazing! Within 3 weeks we – the IPSC and our European Coalition partners in the ECCP – managed to collect over €10000 for legal proceedings at the European Court of Justice, where we’ll challenge European complicity with Israel’s illegal settlements. Thank you all so much for your generous support – and please keep an eye on our website and social media for further campaign and legal updates!

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is asking our members and supporters to make justice for the Palestinian people an issue in the 2020 Irish General Election. We have produced a short handout with three important issues to raise with canvassers on the doorsteps, or to contact candidates about, and have initiated a campaign asking the candidates to take our three #PalestinePledges in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality. The handout contains questions and important information related to • Support for a ban on trade with Israel’s illegal colonial settlements in Palestine • Support for an end … Continue reading →

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the Trump administration’s statement that the United States will no longer consider Israeli colonial settlements in Palestine to be illegal. The Palestinian rights advocacy organisation further called on the Irish government to move beyond mere condemnations and act to ban trade with the illegal settlements by supporting Frances Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Chairperson, Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, said “This statement has zero legal validity under international law, and flies in the face of the long-established view held by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Irish government and every … Continue reading →

Earlier this year a coalition of European Palestine solidarity groups attempted to use the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism as a means to voice out our call for action against all illegal settlements. This is a mechanism under which 1 million European citizens can compel a debate on an issue of concern. In this case we wanted to see a proper debate on the EU’s legal obligations towards non-recognition of, and non-assistance to, illegal settlements in occupied territories, including Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However, the European Commission refused to even register our Initiative! It is clear, the Commission doesn’t want … Continue reading →

34 European trade union organisations representing millions of workers have written to the European Commission and European governments demanding a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine. The signatories include nine trade union groups based in Ireland: the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU); Fórsa; the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA); Mandate; the Communications Workers Union (CWU), Unison NI, Unite the Union, and both Belfast and Derry Trade Union Councils. The EU considers Israeli settlements as illegal under international law, however it allows Israel to export large quantities of products produced or partly produced in illegal Israeli … Continue reading →

Every year the 29th November is celebrated as UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This year, in the week leading up to it, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has organised a series of events focusing on traditional Palestinian culture and it’s role in resisting apartheid, occupation, and exile. We hope you will be able to make it along to some of all of these special events: At lunchtime on Tuesday 26th November we are hosting an exhibition and workshop focusing on the art of Palestinian embroidery, featuring an expert embroider from Gaza. It will take place in The … Continue reading →

Airbnb just did the worst thing. After announcing they’d ban vacation rentals in illegal Israeli settlements from their platform, Airbnb did a complete reversal and will continue to allow rental suites on the ruins of Palestinian lives and land. This is Palestinian land that Palestinians are not allowed to enter, but Airbnb has decided they’re ok helping everyone else going to this stolen land for their vacations. This is a despicable decision, and we’re going to show them what we think of this with a Deactivate Airbnb day of action. We’ll take action on May 15th, Nakba Day – a day … Continue reading →

A petition signed by over 7,000 people which asks Ireland’s Eurovision entrant Sarah McTernan to pull out of the song contest in Apartheid Israel this week has been delivered to the singer ahead of her scheduled appearance in this Thursday’s semi-final. The signatures were collected online and on the streets over the past two months. The delivery comes a day after Galway City Council passed a motion supporting calls for a boycott of the controversial contest, noting that “it will be openly used for political and militaristic propaganda purposes”. Galway is the third local council to make such a call, … Continue reading →

Last month, as news began to emerge of how the Israeli state was planning to politicise and militarise the Eurovision Song Contest, the Irish Campaign to Boycott Eurovision 2019 in Apartheid Israel wrote to RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, with a series of questions regarding how these manoeuvres were going to be dealt with. Almost a month later, and despite following up, RTÉ have refused to respond. What steps are RTÉ taking to ensure that the Irish act chosen for this year will not perform for soldiers from the Israeli military? It should be absolutely unthinkable that the national Irish broadcaster … Continue reading →

At its monthly meeting this week, Sligo County Council voted to call on RTÉ to boycott this years’ Eurovision Song Contest due to take place in Apartheid Israel. The motion notes that “the Eurovision will be openly used for political and militaristic propaganda purposes” and to whitewash Israel’s “ongoing occupation of Palestinian lands, its continued building of illegal colonial settlements in violation of international law and its human rights abuses and war crimes.” The motion, jointly moved by Cllrs. Declan Bree, Gino O’Boyle and Chris MacManus, was unanimously adopted at its meeting on Monday 1st April 2019. Welcoming the motion, … Continue reading →

The Irish Campaign to Boycott Eurovision 2019 in Israel has learned the shocking news that the Israeli state broadcaster KAN, which is hosting the Eurovision song contest in May, will reserve 500 rehearsal tickets for Israeli soldiers. This despite the competition being billed by the EBU and RTÉ as “a non-political music event”. Furthermore, in an example showing just how political and propagandistic Israel’s hosting of Eurovision is, it was revealed that the locations on the “visual postcards” which RTÉ will broadcast between acts will feature the occupied Golan Heights among other places, likely including the Old City in Palestinian … Continue reading →
