The following letter was sent to the Office of the Taoiseach in December 2018. Subject: Double Standards and Ireland’s human rights obligations re: Palestine and Israel On 13th November 2018 Richard Boyd Barrett TD asked Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to condemn Israeli acts of aggression in Gaza. These acts led to the deaths of 14 people – 12 of them at the hands of Israeli forces. Amongst widespread Israeli bombing, a TV station was destroyed, a university building and human rights centre damaged. Clear attacks on civilian infrastructure against the laws of war. Unfortunately, instead of condemning these acts, the Taoiseach … Continue reading →

We carry below an official statement from the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee, the leadership of the global BDS movement. The IPSC has called an emergency lunchtime protest against the move this Friday 8th December between 1pm and 2pm: U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the “capital of Israel” is an appalling attempt to give legitimacy to Israel’s illegal control of the city by a xenophobic and racist U.S. administration whose own legitimacy is precarious at best. This anti-Palestinian and illegal act reverses decades of official U.S. policy regarding Jerusalem and contradicts the … Continue reading →

Mass murdering war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, the butcher of Gaza, has emerged victorious in the Israeli general election, foisted to victory on the back of racist campaigning and a pledge for the permanent occupation of Palestine . As the IPSC pointed out, it really didn’t matter who came out on top in the election, the net result for Palestinians would still be occupation and apartheid – but the outcome is significant nonetheless. That Netanyahu and his party topped the poll for the third time in a row, and that the Zionist right in general did so well, should serve as … Continue reading →

In March 2015 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, in response to a call for suggestions regarding the development of a government ‘National Plan on Business and Human Rights’, submitted the following document to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In it we outline what we feel are necessary elements any such plan must incorporate in order to ensure that fundamental Palestinian rights are respected by Irish based-businesses and international businesses that operate within Ireland. You can also download the report as a PDF file here. Submission to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade call for input … Continue reading →

Human rights and Palestinian solidarity activists frequently mention violations of international law and the commission of war crimes by the state of Israel. The IPSC National Coordinator Kevin Squires took a look at some of these offences in detail for Liberty, the monthly newspaper of SIPTU, the largest trade union in Ireland. It was part of a four page ‘Palestine Special’ in the September edition, which also included contributions from Palestinian lawyer Diana Buttu, Dr. Claudia Saba of Gaza Action Ireland, and Mags O’Brien of Trade Union Friends of Palestine. You can read the whole section online by clicking here … Continue reading →

In order to help stop Israel’s ‘Prawer Plan‘ which will see the forcible removal of over 30,000 Palestinian Bedouin from their ancestral homelands in the Naqab (Negev) Desert in what would be Israel’s biggest act of ethnic cleansing since 1967, we encourage you to write to, or call, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore TD, and let the Irish government know you want them to take action. Occupied Palestine, 15 February 2013 – The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), a broad coalition of the largest Palestinian civil society organizations, trade unions and NGO networks, supports the outcomes of the UN Fact Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements[1] that calls for boycotts and sanctions as measures required to end the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise. The BNC calls upon states, members of the Human Rights Council, to adopt the report, and on all governments and business enterprises to implement its recommendations. The BNC also calls upon conscientious citizens and civic organizations worldwide to use this report as … Continue reading →

A “thought for Christmas”, posted by the Israeli Embassy in Dublin on its official Facebook page this week, said that if Jesus Christ and his mother Mary were alive today they would “probably end up being lynched in Bethlehem by hostile Palestinians”. After an outcry and backlash at the racism on display, the post in question was removed and replaced with a mealy-mouthed apology. Subsequently, the entire ‘Israel in Ireland’ Facebook page was removed, at least temporarily. However, for those familiar with Israeli policy and public statements by official Israeli spokespeople and politicians, such derogatory words and overt displays of … Continue reading →
