UN Report
The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has welcomed the publication of the latest report by Michael Lynk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which states clearly that “Israel has imposed upon Palestine an apartheid reality in a post-apartheid world.” The Special Rapporteur’s report now joins others by Al Haq, Yesh Din, B’Tselem, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International in concluding that Israel is guilty of the crime against humanity of Apartheid. Help End Israeli Apartheid: Please take two minutes to sign our EU Citizen’s Initiative calling for an end to trade … Continue reading →

Dear friends, The situation in Gaza has become unbearable for the two million people living under Israel’s decade-long illegal siege. Just last week the UN declared that “the ‘unliveability’ threshold has already been passed” in the strip and this has been compounded by Israel’s policy of reducing electricity supply to a few hours every day. For a decade of cruel and illegal siege, for three devastating criminal assaults, for near-daily ceasefire violations, and for making Gaza unlivable, the Israeli state has faced not a single sanction from the international community. This impunity must end, so we are asking you to … Continue reading →

It is imperative that the Irish government vote in favour of the UN Human Rights Council resolution endorsing the conclusions of the ‘United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza Conflict’ and for national and international actions “to ensure justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators”. The vote will take place TOMORROW afternoon, Thursday 2nd July – in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! Last summer, as Israel was raining bombs down on the people of Gaza in an attack that killed over 2,200 Palestinians, including 550 kids, the Irish government shamefully abstained from the vote to establish this inquiry. … Continue reading →

A secret inquiry by the United Nations, parts of which have been leaked to the public, says that Israel was “responsible for striking seven United Nations sites used as civilian shelters” during its assault on Gaza last summer. The report highlights once again the absolute necessity of imposing an arms embargo on Israel, thereby ending the Irish arms trade with this rogue state. Parts of the report, leaked to the Guardian newspaper, state that: * Israel was responsible for striking seven United Nations sites used as civilian shelters during the 2014 Gaza war in which 44 Palestinians died and 227 … Continue reading →

Irish media continues to frequently ignore important stories emerging from Palestine-Israel, stories that are vital to context setting and framing during those times when the issue actually does hit international headlines. By ignoring such stories, which expose the true nature of Palestinian life under military occupation and apartheid, the media can only be considered to be complicit via their silence. Therefore the IPSC continues with our new weekly round up of the most important stories that you may have missed if your only source of information is the Irish mainstream media. #1. Israel pressures UN to remove it from a … Continue reading →

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign in New Ross has responded to a Facebook posting (screenshot below) by Wexford County Councillor Michael Sheehan in which he claimed that the “people of Gaza do better from the government than the people of Wexford”. Andy Kerrigan, Chairperson of the IPSC New Ross branch said: “We have been asked by many people about our views on Cllr. Michael Sheehan’s recent statement trivialising the devastation and current situation in Gaza to make a point about the recent budget in Ireland. “According to the latest UN report, there were 2,104 people killed as a result of the Isaraeli … Continue reading →

Below are the concluding observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) concerning Israel, which operates under the auspices of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. This report was compiled by Patricia Deane. The full report can be read online here. See also the Palestinian Center for Human Rights’ analysis here. Introduction The Committee, responding to Israel’s arguments about “self-defence” and “security”, warns that any security measures taken should be proportionate and should not discriminate against Palestinians in “Israel proper” and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) or against other minorities.
