Victory in Galway as NUIG Students’ Union votes to join BDS movement

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has welcomed the passing of motion calling on the National University of Galway (NUIG) Students’ Union to actively participate in the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel until it ends the occupation of Palestine and complies with its obligations under international law. yo The motion, which reads in full “That NUI Galway Students’ Union actively supports the campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against the State of Israel.” was passed by an almost  2 to 1 margin (1,954 to 1,054 votes) during a student referendum held on March 6th. Teachers Union of Ireland calls for Academic Boycott of Israel in unanimous vote; first academic union in Europe to do so

At its Annual Congress on Thursday 4th April 2013, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) became the first academic union in Europe to endorse the Palestinian call for an academic boycott of Israel. The motion, which refers to Israel as an “apartheid state”, calls for “all members to cease all cultural and academic collaboration with Israel, including the exchange of scientists, students and academic personalities, as well as all cooperation in research programmes” was passed by a unanimous vote during today’s morning session. TUI Dublin Colleges Branch AGM passes motions in support of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions; recognises Israel’s apartheid nature

On Friday 9th November, the AGM of the Dublin Colleges Branch of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) passed a number of motions recognising Israel as an Apartheid state and in full support of the international campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). Three motions in support of Palestinian human rights and BDS were tabled at the 2012 AGM, and all were passed unanimously.
