In a letter published in today’s Irish Times, 18 leading Irish and Palestinian human rights and Palestine solidarity organisations have called for Israel to immediately release Palestinian human rights defender and prisoner of conscience Mahmoud Nawajaa, the General Coordinator of the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. “Mr Nawajaa is a human rights defender and community leader who has been imprisoned solely for exercising his rights to freedom of expression and association. He is therefore a prisoner of conscience, and he must be immediately and unconditionally released. Both the Irish Government and the EU must loudly echo this call … Continue reading →

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) organised the event to convey a simple message, that ‘100 years of injustice & 50 years of occupation is enough! It’s time for freedom, justice and equality for the Palestinian people!’ Click here to read the leaflet (PDF) we handed out to thousands of people along the way. Speaking at the rally outside the Israeli Embassy … Continue reading →

On Wednesday 17th December members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign handed in a petition signed by over 8,000 people calling on Irish supermarket chain Dunnes Stores to make a public commitment that their outlets will not stock goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The petition – signatures for which were collected on streets around Ireland during 2014 – was initiated to coincide with the 30th Anniversary of the 1984 Dunnes Stores anti-Apartheid strike by IDATU (now called Mandate) trade union members in Dublin’s Henry Street, and calls on Dunnes to support justice for … Continue reading →

Palestinian unions representing lecturers, university employees, teachers and writers have praised the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) for its endorsement of an academic boycott of Israel. In a letter saluting the TUI, the Palestinians said the clarity of the union’s statement was “unprecedented”. They also highlighted the importance of such solidarity actions, invoking Irish support for those struggling against South African apartheid many years ago. (The full text of the letter is below.) At its annual conference last Thursday, the TUI voted unanimously to support the request for an academic boycott that has been made by a broad coalition of … Continue reading →

The following letter was published in the Irish Times on Monday 4th June 2012. The impressive list of individual and organisational signatories is indicative of the widespread domestic and international support that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, and the IPSC’s promotion of this campaign, enjoys. The publication came after a month of sustained attacks in the Irish media against the IPSC and the Palestinian call for a cultural boycott campaign against Israel. ============ Sir, – We wish to express our support for the Palestinian call for a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it abides … Continue reading →

Richard Irvine has written the following important pamphlet for the ICTU Trade Union Friends of Palestine. From the introduction: “The Histadrut was founded in December 1920 in British Mandate Palestine. From its inception its aims were neither to build workers’ solidarity nor represent or campaign for workers’ rights; instead it was founded as an exclusively Jewish organisation to facilitate the colonisation of Palestine. As such it worked in tandem with the Jewish Agency to promote the exclusion of Palestinian labour and produce and was at the forefront of the movement to turn Palestine from an Arab country into a Zionist … Continue reading →

On 17 December 2011, Palestinians gathered in the city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank for the Third National Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Conference. The event took place against the backdrop of continuous Israeli violations of Palestinian rights, and a growing resistance against injustice worldwide as demonstrated by the Arab revolutions and the occupy movements. Just minutes away from the conference venue, 500 Jewish settlers live under escort of the Israeli military in a colonial enclave in the middle of old Hebron, terrorizing local Palestinian residents on a daily basis, with the stated intent of driving them from … Continue reading →

Press Release, Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) 20th October 2011 The State of Israel practises a system of occupation, colonialism and apartheid over the Palestinian people, but it does not do so unaided. Israeli military companies are the main enablers of Israel´s persistent and grave violations of international law. They provide the weaponry and technology that allow Israel to commit atrocities and daily violations of human rights, and they directly participate in the construction of Israel´s Apartheid Wall, declared illegal by the International Court of Justice on 9 July 2004.[1] Israeli universities and research institutes are deeply involved in military … Continue reading →
