BNC Statement: Palestinian civil society welcomes the findings and recommendations of the UN Fact Finding Mission on Israeli settlements

Occupied Palestine, 15 February 2013 – The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), a broad coalition of the largest Palestinian civil society organizations, trade unions and NGO networks, supports the outcomes of the UN Fact Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements[1] that calls for boycotts and sanctions as measures required to end the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise. The BNC calls upon states, members of the Human Rights Council, to adopt the report, and on all governments and business enterprises to implement its recommendations. The BNC also calls upon conscientious citizens and civic organizations worldwide to use this report as … Continue reading

Caterpillar jobs announcement in Belfast marred by association with human rights abuses

The announcement of 200 new jobs in an economically deprived area of West Belfast has been widely welcomed. Unfortunately the company providing these jobs, Caterpillar, has a record that is not something to celebrate. Caterpillar is the subject of an international divestment campaign because its equipment has been routinely used by Israel to demolish Palestinian homes and destroy farmland. It is also used in the building of illegal settlements and wall in the occupied Palestinian territories. Furthermore, Caterpillar bulldozers have also killed several people, including the crushing to death of US human rights activist Rachel Corrie ten years ago next … Continue reading

IPSC welcomes University of California Irvine student government resolution on divestment from Israel

We would like to express our wholehearted support for the University of California Irvine student government’s stand for human rights and justice, in the form of its November 2012 divestment resolution. This resolution is a firm, clear sighted statement based on a commitment to justice and an understanding of the importance of ensuring that international companies comply with human rights and international law. The companies mentioned in the resolution all have an ongoing record of complicity in illegal Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories. They are all engaged in well-documented and flagrant breaches of basic human rights norms, and … Continue reading

Not just for Christmas, and not just on Facebook – Israel’s racism and hostility towards Palestinians

A “thought for Christmas”, posted by the Israeli Embassy in Dublin on its official Facebook page this week, said that if Jesus Christ and his mother Mary were alive today they would “probably end up being lynched in Bethlehem by hostile Palestinians”. After an outcry and backlash at the racism on display, the post in question was removed and replaced with a mealy-mouthed apology. Subsequently, the entire ‘Israel in Ireland’ Facebook page was removed, at least temporarily. However, for those familiar with Israeli policy and public statements by official Israeli spokespeople and politicians, such derogatory words and overt displays of … Continue reading

The Russell Tribunal on Palestine is an International People’s Tribunal created in response to the international community’s inaction regarding Israel’s recognized violations of international law. Following the sessions in Barcelona (which focused on EU complicity), London (on Corporate Complicity) and Cape Town (on the crime of Apartheid), the New York Tribunal will go back to the root of the conflict and focus on UN and US responsibility in the denial of the Palestinian right to self-determination. There will be live streams from New York on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October (starting at 3pm Irish Time every day) – use … Continue reading

The film by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi, won the Audience Award – meaning it was voted by film-goers as the best film in the festival. Several IPSC members and supporters went along to the screening in Dublin on Friday 17th August and can confirm that the film is a deserving winner of this year’s … Continue reading

BDS at 7! – Celebrating, reflecting and further mainstreaming

Statement from Palestinian Boycott National Committee (BNC) Occupied Palestine, 9th July 2012 Seven years after the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel was launched, the global BDS campaign has become stronger, more widespread, more effective and certainly more diverse than ever—a true cause for celebration by all those groups and conscientious citizens of the world who contributed to this success. However, Israel’s intensifying violations of international law and basic Palestinian rights, the direct threat Israel poses to the freedom of peoples across the region, and the impunity that Israel still enjoys are cause for … Continue reading

10 Years Too Long: Al-Haq campaign examines the effects and illegality of Annexation Wall

As a Palestinian organisation dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), Al-Haq has, for the past ten years, witnessed with growing  concern Israel’s continued construction of what Professor John Dugard, former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Occupied since 1967, has termed “the Annexation Wall.” Since the outset, the construction of the Wall in the OPT has faced international condemnation on the basis of its illegality under international law. In 2004, the International Court of Justice called on Israel to cease construction of the … Continue reading

The writing is on the Apartheid Wall for CRH

Graffiti artists in Palestine have made it clear to Irish cement multinational CRH what they think of the activities of their Israeli subsidiary Mashav. Mashav, in which CRH holds a 25% stake, own Nesher cement – Israel’s sole cement manufacturing company. Nesher cement is used in the construction of the Apartheid Wall, Israeli settlements and related infrastructure, all declared illegal by the International Court of Justice in its 2004 ruling. CRH is aiding and abetting, and literally concretising, Israel’s apartheid policies against the Palestinian people. For more about CRH’s involvement, please see this section of our website. On Saturday 7th … Continue reading

Action Item: Petition to CRH plc – Stop Cementing Misery in Palestine

PLEASE SIGN THIS IMPORTANT PETITION BY CLICKING HERE. We are asking the Ireland based company, CRH plc, to respect the human rights of the Palestinian people by divesting their 25% share of Israel’s sole cement producer, Nesher Cement Enterprises . This cement is being extensively used in the construction of the illegal West Bank wall and the massive expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied territories of Palestine. These activities are illegal under international law. In order to make way for these construction projects Palestinian homes are being demolished and their farms are being destroyed daily. Life for the Palestinian … Continue reading

‘CRH and the Apartheid Wall Roadshow’ comes to Wexford’s Bullring

People walking into Wexford town’s iconic Bullring on Saturday 24th March 2012 found themselves face to face with sirens, soldiers manning a menacing checkpoint, and a scale model of Israel’s illegal West Bank wall. Luckily it was just part of a street theatre event organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) to highlight awareness of the day to day horrors being endured by the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation, and highlighting the role Irish cement multinational CRH plays in the building of Israel’s Apartheid Wall and illegal Jewish-only settlements in the West Bank. To sign the IPSC’s petition calling … Continue reading
