Watch: IPSC at Dublin’s Alternative Pride 2019

On Saturday 29th June 2019 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) participated in the first ‘Pride Alternative’ event in Dublin. The event was established in protest at the increasing corporatisation of the Dublin Pride parade, and the associated pinkwashing of deeply problematic companies and institutions. IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi delivered a speech at the rally about the reasons the IPSC was supporting the event, and about Israel’s cynical use of pinkwashing to mask it’s oppression of the Palestinian people. It’s that time of year again, when politicians come knocking on doors looking for your vote. This May there will be European and Local elections in Ireland north and south. While domestic issues are, as always, likely to dominate the discussions, we believe it is vitally important that the issue of Palestine is kept firmly in the minds and mouths of all our politicians. Last month we wrote to European Election candidates in all four Irish constituencies and asked them a series of four short questions about their positions on the Palestine-Israel issue, informing them that we would be publishing the answers so that those who care about Palestinian rights can be better informed when voting on polling day. Happy New Year from Ireland to Palestine! Below are some pictures and a short video from the many solidarity vigils that took place around Ireland this New Year’s Eve to mark the tenth anniversary of the 2008/09 Israeli attack that killed over 1,400 people. Palestinians have asked us to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, so let’s work together even harder to ensure that 2019 is the year the people of Palestine finally enjoy freedom, justice and equality!

Taoiseach’s double standards and Ireland’s human rights obligations re: Palestine and Israel

The following letter was sent to the Office of the Taoiseach in December 2018. Subject: Double Standards and Ireland’s human rights obligations re: Palestine and Israel On 13th November 2018 Richard Boyd Barrett TD asked Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to condemn Israeli acts of aggression in Gaza. Minister of State and 50 Irish lawmakers call for arms embargo on Israel

In a letter published today in the Irish Times newspaper, Minister of State Finian McGrath and fifty other Irish TDs and Senators have called for an arms embargo to be placed on Israel, and for “an end to the bi-lateral arms trade between Ireland and the apartheid state”. 150 trade unions, parties, NGOs and faith groups call on EU to stop funding Israeli arms companies

Today, on the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Political Prisoners, more than 150 European trade unions, political parties, human rights organizations and faith groups from over 16 European countries issued a call urging the EU to uphold its legal responsibilities and exclude Israeli military companies from EU Framework Programs. Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi was a speaker alongside the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, author Nell Regan, the indomitable community workers Rita Fegan and Fidelma Bonass at an International Women’s Day event in Dublin’s Richmond Barracks, organised by the St. Michaels Estate Family Resource Centre. Ms. Tamimi’s speech praised the role of women in the Palestinian fight for freedom, justice and equality, and located the struggle for Palestinian liberty within the broader struggle against oppression and injustice everywhere.
