Let’s make Palestine an election issue: #PalestinePledges for #GE2020

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is asking our members and supporters to make justice for the Palestinian people an issue in the 2020 Irish General Election. We have produced a short handout with three important issues to raise with canvassers on the doorsteps, or to contact candidates about, and have initiated a campaign asking the candidates to take our three #PalestinePledges in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality. The handout contains questions and important information related to • Support for a ban on trade with Israel’s illegal colonial settlements in Palestine • Support for an end … Continue reading

THANK YOU! You did it – we raised €10,000 and will be taking the EU to court over Israel’s illegal settlements

You. Have. Been. Amazing! Within 3 weeks we – the IPSC and our European Coalition partners in the ECCP – managed to collect over €10000 for legal proceedings at the European Court of Justice, where we’ll challenge European complicity with Israel’s illegal settlements. Thank you all so much for your generous support – and please keep an eye on our website and social media for further campaign and legal updates!

In response to US reversal on settlements, IPSC calls for Irish ban on settlement trade

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the Trump administration’s statement that the United States will no longer consider Israeli colonial settlements in Palestine to be illegal. The Palestinian rights advocacy organisation further called on the Irish government to move beyond mere condemnations and act to ban trade with the illegal settlements by supporting Frances Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Chairperson, Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, said “This statement has zero legal validity under international law, and flies in the face of the long-established view held by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Irish government and every … Continue reading

WE’RE TAKING THE EU TO COURT – And we need your support to do it!

Earlier this year a coalition of European Palestine solidarity groups attempted to use the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism as a means to voice out our call for action against all illegal settlements. This is a mechanism under which 1 million European citizens can compel a debate on an issue of concern. In this case we wanted to see a proper debate on the EU’s legal obligations towards non-recognition of, and non-assistance to, illegal settlements in occupied territories, including Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However, the European Commission refused to even register our Initiative! It is clear, the Commission doesn’t want … Continue reading

EU governments must ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements say major European trade unions

34 European trade union organisations representing millions of workers have written to the European Commission and European governments demanding a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine. The signatories include nine trade union groups based in Ireland: the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU); Fórsa; the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA); Mandate; the Communications Workers Union (CWU), Unison NI, Unite the Union, and both Belfast and Derry Trade Union Councils. The EU considers Israeli settlements as illegal under international law, however it allows Israel to export large quantities of products produced or partly produced in illegal Israeli … Continue reading

Watch: IPSC at Dublin’s Alternative Pride 2019

On Saturday 29th June 2019 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) participated in the first ‘Pride Alternative’ event in Dublin. The event was established in protest at the increasing corporatisation of the Dublin Pride parade, and the associated pinkwashing of deeply problematic companies and institutions. IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi delivered a speech at the rally about the reasons the IPSC was supporting the event, and about Israel’s cynical use of pinkwashing to mask it’s oppression of the Palestinian people. Below is a video and the text of that speech. In solidarity with our friends in Queer Action Ireland, who have … Continue reading

Make Palestine an EU & Local Election Issue!

It’s that time of year again, when politicians come knocking on doors looking for your vote. This May there will be European and Local elections in Ireland north and south. While domestic issues are, as always, likely to dominate the discussions, we believe it is vitally important that the issue of Palestine is kept firmly in the minds and mouths of all our politicians. The very essence of the Palestine solidarity movement is to ‘think globally, act locally’ – and we have seen impressive local support for Palestinian freedom by many local councils over the past decade. We need to … Continue reading

EU Elections 2019: Where do the candidates stand on Palestine?

Last month we wrote to European Election candidates in all four Irish constituencies and asked them a series of four short questions about their positions on the Palestine-Israel issue, informing them that we would be publishing the answers so that those who care about Palestinian rights can be better informed when voting on polling day. Below we we are publishing all those answers we have received so far. Please note that Some of the candidates did not answer the questions directly and instead simply submitted their own wider positions. Not all candidates responded, but at least one representative from most … Continue reading

Things are getting worse for Palestinians – we need your support to keep fighting for justice!

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR WORK – BECOME A CONTRIBUTOR TODAY The Trump-Netanyahu Axis of Racism is an ongoing disaster for the Palestinian people. The Trump administration has enacted a series of harsh policies, including recognising occupied Jerusalem as the capital of apartheid Israel, recognising the illegal annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights, threatening the International Criminal Court, and cutting all funding to UNRWA, the agency responsible for providing education and healthcare to millions of Palestinian refugees. Meanwhile, attempts continue to brutally suppress Palestinian resistance, with almost 200 unarmed protesters deliberately shot dead and thousands wounded in Gaza, and thousands of prisoners … Continue reading
