Sunset for international law? Israel’s annexation plan and the re-partition of Palestine

From the first of July the government of Israel is planning to bring forth legislation to unilaterally annex Israel’s illegal settlements and the Jordan Valley region of the Palestinian West Bank. This constitutes an area of roughly 30% of the West Bank, and will be in addition to Israel’s already illegal annexations of Palestinian East Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan Heights. This is an attempt to re-partition Palestine, and represents the latest phase in the ongoing Nakba endured by the Palestinian people. The annexation plan eliminates whatever diminished prospect still exists of achieving a viable sovereign independent state. In its … Continue reading

In Photos: See our #KeyToJustice Nakba Day Selfies!

15th May 2020 was the 72nd Nakba Day, when Palestinians and their supporters commemorate the 1947-49 ethnic cleansing of Palestine. As we were unable to take to the streets with our ‘Moving Nakba Gallery’ like we do every year, this year we did something a bit different. Instead of showing the Irish public the realities of the ongoing Nakba, we wanted to show Palestinians – especially refugees – that we, the members and supporters of the IPSC, continue to stand in solidarity with their struggle for freedom, justice, equality and return – even if we can’t take to the streets … Continue reading

WATCH: Nakba Day Message from the IPSC

Today is Nakba Day, which marks the 72nd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (‘Catastrophe’) which saw the expulsion of over 750,000 people, two-thirds of the indigenous people of Palestine, forcibly uprooted from their homeland in a brutal act of ethnic cleansing that facilitated the foundation of the Apartheid State of Israel. Today, Palestinian refugees are trapped in an ongoing Nakba, many of them risking their lives crossing the Mediterranean to flee conditions in Syria, facing endemic poverty and discrimination in Lebanon, discriminated against as unrecognised internally displaced placed people inside the Apartheid State of Israel, subject to attacks by Israeli … Continue reading

Take Action: COVID-19 Emergency – Gaza Needs You!

Last March, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation of the two million Palestinians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip gave cause for grave concern. Now, sadly, the worst has begun to come to pass; at the time of writing Gaza has seen at least 400 active cases, most of them from community transmission, with 3 deaths. This means that the coronavirus is at large and a serious threat to Gazan society, not least the estimated 50,000 Nakba survivors who live there. This disaster comes in the context of the apartheid state of Israel tightening the blockade of … Continue reading

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) welcomed today’s announcement by the Irish Government regarding the provision of €6 million in extra funding to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which is tasked with overseeing the welfare of Palestinian refugees. However, the human rights organisation also called on the government to do more to help end Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza which is putting Palestinians at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and to put pressure on Israel to ensure it meets its legal obligations to provide adequate healthcare to the people of Palestine. IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi said: “Palestinian refugees … Continue reading

Trump and Netanyahu’s ‘Steal of the Century’ means action is urgently needed to secure Palestinian rights

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity (IPSC) campaign stands with the millions of Palestinians all over the world who have condemned and rejected the Trump Administration’s so-called ‘Deal of the Century’, which yesterday was unveiled in full. IPSC Chairperson Fatin Al Tamimi, herself a Palestinian, said: “This is not a deal, this is a re-partitioning of Palestine accompanied by a list of unacceptable demands placed upon the Palestinian people insisting upon our total surrender; namely the renunciation of our human, national, democratic, territorial and economic rights – not least the right of return for millions of refugees, the right to self-determination in our … Continue reading
