To commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Israeli ‘Operation Cast Lead’ attack on Gaza, and to highlight Israeli’s ongoing brutality coupled with the cruel and illegal siege of Gaza, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) staged a series of solidarity vigils around Ireland on New Years’ Eve. In protest at the Trump Administration’s decision to recognise Israeli-occupied Jerusalem as the capital of apartheid Israel and move the US Embassy there, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) held an emergency lunchtime demonstration outside the US Embassy in Dublin on a bitterly cold Friday, 8th December. A large number of people gathered to denounce the move, and there were speeches from the Lord Mayor Of Dublin Micheál Mac Donncha, Dublin City Councillor John Lyons, and Martin O’Quigley from the IPSC. Today the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) hosted a symbolic demonstration outside the British Embassy in Dublin to commemorate the centenary of the Balfour Declaration. At the gathering, the IPSC handed in a letter calling for Britain to take action to atone for its historic and ongoing role in Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people. On Saturday 10th June around 1,500 people from all over Ireland (and further afield) marched in a National Demonstration to mark the 50th anniversary of Israel’s occupation and illegal colonisation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. IPSC members and supporters in Portadown handed in a formal letter of protest on Thursday evening (May 12th) to the main production plant of Wilson’s Country, based at Carn industrial estate on the outskirts of the town, objecting to the company’s decision to recommence the importation of Israeli produce. A short protest was held at the main entrance of the firm and placards urging the boycott of Israeli produce were erected along the perimeter fence of the six acre site. Today, April 17th, is Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. Yesterday IPSC branches in Dublin and Portadown hosted information stalls dedicated to the issue of political prisoners in Apartheid Israel’s jails – where torture and other physical and psychological ill treatment, denial of visitation rights, terrible food and appalling conditions are routine. Since 1967 Israeli has imprisoned over 800,000 Palestinians – around 1/4 of the male population in the OPT – and currently holds over 7,640 political prisoners, including 700 internees, 68 women and 420 children, the youngest being a 12-year-old girl.
