‘Great March of Return’ meeting in Portadown with Asad Abushark

On Saturday, 1st December, the Portadown branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign was privileged to host Asad Abushark as the guest speaker at a public meeting in the Drumcree Community Centre. Asad Abushark is an official spokesperson for the Palestinian people’s Great March of Return. Since March of this year, over 200 people have been shot dead and thousands more have been shot and wounded by Israeli military forces while taking part in weekly March of Return protests. Portadown IPSC/Gaza women’s project – latest update

In the aftermath of destructive military onslaught on Gaza by Israeli forces which cost the lives of over 2,000 Palestinians in 2014, Portadown IPSC made contact with community workers in Khan Younis to establish a means of providing material assistance to those most affected by the conflict. A proposal was received back from Gaza in relation to a potential project which sought to provide direct assistance to women in those families where the main bread-winner was either killed or seriously injured as a result of the Israeli bombardment. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is honoured to host a speaking tour with Iyad Burnat, a Palestinian human rights leader, from 1st to 8th October 2016. An award winning human rights activist, Iyad will describe what life is like under Israeli occupation, his village’s ongoing struggle for justice, human rights and freedom, and what inspires him to continue non-violent resistance. Born in 1973, Iyad Burnat is the head of the Bil’in popular committee and Friends of Freedom and Justice and will be a familiar figure to the many Irish who have travelled to Bil’in over the past number of years. In Pictures: Newbridge, Portadown and Galway stand in solidarity with Gaza and Bilal Kayed

On Thursday 26th August, IPSC branches in Galway, Newbridge and Portadown organised solidarity protests against the ongoing siege and renewed bombing of Gaza, and calling for freedom for Palestinian hunger strike Bilal Kayed, who ended his fast after 71 days without food. Portadown IPSC protests major food processor’s trade with Israel

IPSC members and supporters in Portadown handed in a formal letter of protest on Thursday evening (May 12th) to the main production plant of Wilson’s Country, based at Carn industrial estate on the outskirts of the town, objecting to the company’s decision to recommence the importation of Israeli produce. A short protest was held at the main entrance of the firm and placards urging the boycott of Israeli produce were erected along the perimeter fence of the six acre site. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign was once again proud to be hosting a series of events in Ireland to mark 12 years of Israeli Apartheid Week. IAW is an annual international series of events (including rallies, lectures, performances, films, multimedia displays and protest actions) held in cities and campuses across the globe. Each year, Israeli Apartheid Week – an annual international series of events – takes place across more than 150 universities and cities. Gaza women’s project reaching fruition through Portadown IPSC support

A project in the Khan Younis area of Gaza, directly supported by the Portadown branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), will see training and employment opportunities created for at least sixty women in war-devastated region. In the aftermath of last year’s military onslaught on Gaza by Israeli forces which cost the lives of over 2,000 Palestinians, a number of people in Portadown who had previously been involved in various initiatives relating to Palestine came together to form a local branch of the Ireland Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. In pictures: ‘Boycott Israeli Goods’ day of action at Tescos nationwide

To coincide with the visit to Ireland by Riya Hassan of the Palestinian BDS National Committee, the Ireland-Palestine Solidairty Campaign organsied a ‘Boycott Israeli Goods’ day of action on Saturday 26th September focusing on the chain retailer Tesco across the island of Ireland. There were Boycott Israeli Goods information stalls and leafletting of shoppers in a dozen Irish towns and cities including Dublin, Belfast, Limerick, Cork, Galway, Dungannon, Naas, Kildare, Newbridge, Ennis and Sligo.
