Minister of State and 50 Irish lawmakers call for arms embargo on Israel

In a letter published today in the Irish Times newspaper, Minister of State Finian McGrath and fifty other Irish TDs and Senators have called for an arms embargo to be placed on Israel, and for “an end to the bi-lateral arms trade between Ireland and the apartheid state”. Mike Murphy and Brian Kerr join public figures in criticising Bank of Ireland over closure of Palestine accounts

Broadcaster Mike Murphy and former Republic of Ireland football manager Brian Kerr were among 26 public figures who today published a letter criticising the Bank of Ireland over its closure of the accounts of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) in September, and calling for the reinstatement of the group’s banking facilities. Irish public figures’ statement in support of Israel boycott welcomed by human rights campaigners

In an open letter published in today’s Irish Times and Irish Independent, thirteen of Ireland’s best-known musicians, writers, artists and sports stars have called on the Irish government to join them in supporting the growing worldwide boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. The IPSC deplores the brutal murder of the three young Israeli citizens whose remains were found on Monday near Hebron and the apparent ‘revenge’ murder of a Palestinian teenager reportedly carried out by Israeli extremists early Wednesday. Equally the IPSC deplores the deaths of all civilians killed in this conflict of unequals, including the six civilians killed by Israeli occupation forces since the Israeli teenagers were kidnapped. As part of their attack on Gaza, Israel has conducted a media war in Ireland – media outlets have spoken to us of being ‘bombarded’ by Israeli press releases and having Israeli spokespeople continually haranguing them.
