Take Action to #FreeMahmoud: Irish Government must act for release of leading Palestinian BDS Activist

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has condemned last night’s arrest and detention of well known Palestinian human rights defender Mahmoud Nawajaa (34), the General Coordinator of the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC). According to reports from Palestine, at around 3.30am last night, dozens of Israeli occupation soldiers stormed the village of Abu Qash near Ramallah, kicked in the door of Mr. Nawajaa’s house, handcuffed and blindfolded him in front of his family, and then hauled him off to Jalameh prison inside the state of Israel. The BNC is a broad coalition of over 200 Palestinian civil society organisations … Continue reading

Nawajaa was abducted from his home by Israeli occupation forces on 30th July and has been held without charge since, denied access to his lawyers or family. Yesterday the IPSC alongside Irish public, political and human rights figures including renowned artist Robert Ballagh, TDs Seán Crowe, Chris Andrews, Bríd Smith, Mairead Farrell, Martin Browne and David Cullinane, Senator Fintan Warfield, Dublin City Councillors Daniel Céitinn … Continue reading

Action on Annexation: Contact the Irish government to demand sanctions on Apartheid Israel

With the full backing of the US, and a virtual silence of the EU, from 1st of July, Apartheid Israel says it will begin the process of annexing some 30% of the Palestinian land it occupies, in total violation of international law. As this illegal annexation of large parts of Palestine looms, we’re asking people to mobilize to put pressure on politicians for real and meaningful action, not hollow platitudes, in defence of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and freedom! Sign & Share the Avaaz petition First, we ask you to please sign and share this very … Continue reading

IPSC determined to help push Occupied Territories Bill forward

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemns the failure of the negotiating parties to include an explicit reference to the Occupied Territories Bill in the Programme for Government. The IPSC will, nevertheless, continue to hold the government accountable to the Programme for Government’s clearly stated commitment that Ireland will be adhering to its “obligations under international law” with regard to Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. IPSC members are aggrieved  that the Occupied Territories Bill was discarded from the Programme for Government at the last minute, seemingly to mollify the Fine Gael leadership who, for political reasons, continue attempts to block this legislation. … Continue reading

Sunset for international law? Israel’s annexation plan and the re-partition of Palestine

From the first of July the government of Israel is planning to bring forth legislation to unilaterally annex Israel’s illegal settlements and the Jordan Valley region of the Palestinian West Bank. This constitutes an area of roughly 30% of the West Bank, and will be in addition to Israel’s already illegal annexations of Palestinian East Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan Heights. This is an attempt to re-partition Palestine, and represents the latest phase in the ongoing Nakba endured by the Palestinian people. The annexation plan eliminates whatever diminished prospect still exists of achieving a viable sovereign independent state. In its … Continue reading

On eve of annexation, European Parliament shamefully consents to EU-Israel aviation agreement

Yesterday the European Parliament showed how empty the EU’s words of condemnation against Israel’s imminent annexation of parts of the occupied Palestinian West Bank are by voting to give consent to the ratification of the EU-Israel Aviation Agreement. While the EU ostensibly opposes Israel’s annexation of Palestinian land, with Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell saying that such a step “cannot pass unchallenged”, it has continued to lavish Israel with gifts. Last night’s vote is only the latest in a series of enticements from the EU to Israel, which have fuelled decades of impunity and human rights abuses against Palestinians. On … Continue reading

WATCH: Nakba Day Message from the IPSC

Today is Nakba Day, which marks the 72nd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (‘Catastrophe’) which saw the expulsion of over 750,000 people, two-thirds of the indigenous people of Palestine, forcibly uprooted from their homeland in a brutal act of ethnic cleansing that facilitated the foundation of the Apartheid State of Israel. Today, Palestinian refugees are trapped in an ongoing Nakba, many of them risking their lives crossing the Mediterranean to flee conditions in Syria, facing endemic poverty and discrimination in Lebanon, discriminated against as unrecognised internally displaced placed people inside the Apartheid State of Israel, subject to attacks by Israeli … Continue reading

URGENT: As leaders meet TODAY to discuss OTB – Tell Leo Varadkar & Fine Gael it’s time to support the Bill!

The headline in today’s Irish Independent reads ‘Leaders meet with talks deadlocked over carbon taxes, housing and Israel’. The article goes on to say that a “crunch summit” TODAY “is expected to focus on proposals to ban the importation of Israeli goods produced in occupied Palestinian territories, as this issue has been passed on to the leaders after the negotiators could not reach agreement.” Your lobbying is working, together we have managed to push the Occupied Territories Bill to forefront of the government formation agenda! We are thrilled to hear that both Fianna Fáil and the Green Party have been … Continue reading

Tell Fianna Fáil and the Greens not to ditch the Occupied Territories Bill!

Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party are deep in negotiations to form the next government. They will soon begin discussing matters of foreign affairs – and we need to make sure that Fianna Fáil and the Greens know they can’t just forget about their election commitments that they would support the passage of the Occupied Territories Bill into law. Indeed, we are very concerned that the Occupied Territories Bill will be discarded by the parties during government negotiations even though it is supported by the overwhelming majority of TDs and Senators. To ensure that this doesn’t happen it … Continue reading

Take Action: COVID-19 Emergency – Gaza Needs You!

Last March, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation of the two million Palestinians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip gave cause for grave concern. Now, sadly, the worst has begun to come to pass; at the time of writing Gaza has seen at least 400 active cases, most of them from community transmission, with 3 deaths. This means that the coronavirus is at large and a serious threat to Gazan society, not least the estimated 50,000 Nakba survivors who live there. This disaster comes in the context of the apartheid state of Israel tightening the blockade of … Continue reading

IPSC Statement: On Land Day Palestine stands on the brink of unimaginable tragedy

Dear members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), we hope that you and your loved ones are doing as well as you can be in these very difficult and uncertain times, we are thinking of you and send our best wishes to you all. Today we commemorate Palestinian Land Day, which marks the date in 1976 when Palestinian citizens of Israel were gunned down, six of them murdered, while protesting for their rights – and also marks the second anniversary of the Great March of Return in Gaza. Sadly, four decades later those rights are still to be … Continue reading

Take Action: FF-FG Program for Government must include Occupied Territories Bill commitment

It seems increasingly likely that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will form a coalition government together very soon. We believe that it is important that even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the incredible strain and, sadly, increasing tragedy, that has been placed upon people in Ireland as a result, that we do not forget about our sisters and brothers in Palestine. We are asking our supporters to write to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney, Fianna Fail leader Micheál Martin, Fianna Fail foreign affairs spokesperson Seán Haughey, and to your local Fianna … Continue reading
