WE’RE TAKING THE EU TO COURT – And we need your support to do it!

Earlier this year a coalition of European Palestine solidarity groups attempted to use the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism as a means to voice out our call for action against all illegal settlements. This is a mechanism under which 1 million European citizens can compel a debate on an issue of concern. In this case we wanted to see a proper debate on the EU’s legal obligations towards non-recognition of, and non-assistance to, illegal settlements in occupied territories, including Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However, the European Commission refused to even register our Initiative! It is clear, the Commission doesn’t want … Continue reading

In response to US reversal on settlements, IPSC calls for Irish ban on settlement trade

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the Trump administration’s statement that the United States will no longer consider Israeli colonial settlements in Palestine to be illegal. The Palestinian rights advocacy organisation further called on the Irish government to move beyond mere condemnations and act to ban trade with the illegal settlements by supporting Frances Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Chairperson, Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, said “This statement has zero legal validity under international law, and flies in the face of the long-established view held by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Irish government and every … Continue reading

Take Action: Tell AXA to Divest from Israeli Apartheid!

Earlier today, SumOfUs published the report “AXA: Financing War Crimes” which shows that the French insurance giant AXA invests over $91 million in Israel’s largest private security and military company, Elbit Systems, and Israel’s five main banks, which operate in and serve Israel’s illegal settlements. Elbit Systems, Bank Hapoalim, Bank Leumi, Mizrahi Tefahot, First International Bank of Israel and Israel Discount Bank all support Israel’s illegal settlements and associated infrastructure, in addition to the unlawful use of armed force against Palestinians. This makes AXA complicit in serious violations of international law. It also violates AXA’s own responsible investment policies. Send … Continue reading

EU governments must ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements say major European trade unions

34 European trade union organisations representing millions of workers have written to the European Commission and European governments demanding a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine. The signatories include nine trade union groups based in Ireland: the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU); Fórsa; the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA); Mandate; the Communications Workers Union (CWU), Unison NI, Unite the Union, and both Belfast and Derry Trade Union Councils. The EU considers Israeli settlements as illegal under international law, however it allows Israel to export large quantities of products produced or partly produced in illegal Israeli … Continue reading

Stand up to Trump: Join the protests against Donald Trump’s visit!

With US President Donald Trump set to visit Ireland and be feted by our government next week, there will be protests around the country against this warmonger and viciously anti-Palestinian racist. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) encourages all our members and supporters to attend these protests to let Trump and our government know that bigoted, misogynistic warmongers are not welcome on our shores.  In particular we ask supporters based in or near Dublin to join the Palestine bloc on the Dublin protest on Thursday 6th June, and those based near Shannon to join the ongoing protest there. The Trump-Netanyahu Axis … Continue reading

Make Palestine an EU & Local Election Issue!

It’s that time of year again, when politicians come knocking on doors looking for your vote. This May there will be European and Local elections in Ireland north and south. While domestic issues are, as always, likely to dominate the discussions, we believe it is vitally important that the issue of Palestine is kept firmly in the minds and mouths of all our politicians. The very essence of the Palestine solidarity movement is to ‘think globally, act locally’ – and we have seen impressive local support for Palestinian freedom by many local councils over the past decade. We need to … Continue reading

EU Elections 2019: Where do the candidates stand on Palestine?

Last month we wrote to European Election candidates in all four Irish constituencies and asked them a series of four short questions about their positions on the Palestine-Israel issue, informing them that we would be publishing the answers so that those who care about Palestinian rights can be better informed when voting on polling day. Below we we are publishing all those answers we have received so far. Please note that Some of the candidates did not answer the questions directly and instead simply submitted their own wider positions. Not all candidates responded, but at least one representative from most … Continue reading

#DeactivateAirbnb: Join to campaign the deactivate Airbnb accounts on Nakba Day, 15th May

Airbnb just did the worst thing. After announcing they’d ban vacation rentals in illegal Israeli settlements from their platform, Airbnb did a complete reversal and will continue to allow rental suites on the ruins of Palestinian lives and land. This is Palestinian land that Palestinians are not allowed to enter, but Airbnb has decided they’re ok helping everyone else going to this stolen land for their vacations. This is a despicable decision, and we’re going to show them what we think of this with a Deactivate Airbnb day of action. We’ll take action on May 15th, Nakba Day – a day … Continue reading

A new petition calling on Sarah McTernan not to go to Apartheid Israel has been launched – you can sign it here! Eurovision: The Questions RTÉ Refuse to Answer

Last month, as news began to emerge of how the Israeli state was planning to politicise and militarise the Eurovision Song Contest, the Irish Campaign to Boycott Eurovision 2019 in Apartheid Israel wrote to RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, with a series of questions regarding how these manoeuvres were going to be dealt with. Almost a month later, and despite following up, RTÉ have refused to respond. What steps are RTÉ taking to ensure that the Irish act chosen for this year will not perform for soldiers from the Israeli military? It should be absolutely unthinkable that the national Irish broadcaster … Continue reading
