In pictures: Raising awareness for Palestinian Prisoners’ Day

Today, April 17th, is Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. Yesterday IPSC branches in Dublin and Portadown hosted information stalls dedicated to the issue of political prisoners in Apartheid Israel’s jails – where torture and other physical and psychological ill treatment, denial of visitation rights, terrible food and appalling conditions are routine. Since 1967 Israeli has imprisoned over 800,000 Palestinians – around 1/4 of the male population in the OPT – and currently holds over 7,640 political prisoners, including 700 internees, 68 women and 420 children, the youngest being a 12-year-old girl. All are treated with the same callousness regardless of age or … Continue reading

DCI report shows Israel ‘directly targeted’ Palestinian children and violates IHL: Another reason to the end the Irish arms trade with Israel

In the latest of literally thousands of such reports dating back over decades, this week Defence For Children International produced a report entitled ‘Operation Protective Edge: A War Waged on Gaza’s Children’. The findings of the report merely add more weight to the call for an arms embargo on Israel and an end to the Irish arms trade with this rogue state. The report “found overwhelming and repeated evidence of international humanitarian law violations committed by Israeli forces. These included direct attacks on children, and indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilian homes, schools, and residential neighbourhoods”, that “Israel, the world’s … Continue reading

Infographic: Peace? What Peace? Israel’s ceaseless attacks on Palestinian people and property (1 Aug – 23 Sept 2013)

In the past three days, two Israeli soldiers have been killed by Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. These attacks have generated countless headlines, both in Israel and internationally. Alas, the same cannot be said for the 7 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the weeks since the Palestinian-Israeli ‘peace talks’ reopened at the end of July last (or indeed, the 11 other Palestinians already killed this year). Of course, in the Israeli press and polity, the killings have led to denunciations of Palestinians as not being ‘serious’ about peace. Ignore for a moment the fact that the killings were … Continue reading
