In Pictures and Video: IPSC #StopPrawer demo in Dublin

On Thursday 1st August, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) will held a demonstration at The Spire on O’Connell Street in Dublin to protest Israel’s biggest planned act of ethnic cleansing since 1967, as part of an international day of action called for by Palestinians. The so-called Prawer Plan will see the forced removal of some 40,000 Palestinian Bedouin from their ancestral homelands in the Naqab/Negev Desert, in the south of the Israeli state, and relocation in a series of townships. The aim of this act is to remove the Bedouin from the land so it can be utilised for ‘Jewish … Continue reading

In order to help stop Israel’s ‘Prawer Plan‘ which will see the forcible removal of over 30,000 Palestinian Bedouin from their ancestral homelands in the Naqab (Negev) Desert in what would be Israel’s biggest act of ethnic cleansing since 1967, we encourage you to write to, or call, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore TD, and let the Irish government know you want them to take action. A model letter is below, which you can email to eamon.gilmore@oireachtas.ie and cc to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs foreignaffairs@oireachtas.ie. Stop the Prawer Plan, Stop the Ethnic Cleansing in the Naqab – IPSC Letter to Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore

Dear Minister Gilmore, We in the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign are writing to bring to your attention the situation facing the Palestinian Bedouin citizens of Israel. The Israeli government is in the process of passing into law the so-called ‘Prawer Plan’. If implemented, the plan will see tens of thousands (estimates vary between 30,000 and 70,000) of Bedouin citizens forcibly displaced from their ancestral homelands in the Naqab (Negev) desert, and forced into a series of ‘Bedouin townships’. Were such an action to take place, it would be the largest act of ethnic cleansing carried out by the Israeli state since … Continue reading

Prawer Plan is Israel’s biggest act of ethnic cleansing since 1967

“The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) strongly condemns the Israeli ‘Prawer Plan’, which will dispossess and expel the indigenous Palestinian Bedouin inhabitants of the Naqab (Negev) Desert and resettle the area with Jewish residents, in the state’s biggest act of ethnic cleansing since 1967,” IPSC Chairperson Matrin O’Quigley said today, calling it “a racist act, pure and simple”. Under the current regime almost half the Bedouin population of the Naqab (40,000 people) live in 35 villages on ancestral land that constitutes less than 5% of the total area. The majority of these villages pre-date the establishment of the Israeli state, yet Israel … Continue reading

Discriminatory Prawer Plan to evict tens of thousands of Bedouins from their communities in the Negev

Statement by the ECCP, Brussels, 12th July 2013: The Israeli government is expecting the Knesset to pass a law regulating the resettlement of Bedouins in the Negev, by which tens of thousands of Bedouins will be expelled from their homes, villages and lands, and concentrated in several more townships to be founded at sites of villages recognized for this purpose. Under the Prawer Plan it is estimated that some 30,000 to 40,000 people in at least 25 of the unrecognized Bedouin villages would be forcibly relocated. This is the largest attempted eviction of a native Palestinian population by Israel in … Continue reading

Caterpillar jobs announcement in Belfast marred by association with human rights abuses

The announcement of 200 new jobs in an economically deprived area of West Belfast has been widely welcomed. Unfortunately the company providing these jobs, Caterpillar, has a record that is not something to celebrate. Caterpillar is the subject of an international divestment campaign because its equipment has been routinely used by Israel to demolish Palestinian homes and destroy farmland. It is also used in the building of illegal settlements and wall in the occupied Palestinian territories. Furthermore, Caterpillar bulldozers have also killed several people, including the crushing to death of US human rights activist Rachel Corrie ten years ago next … Continue reading
