Israel’s academic standing: mediocre and slipping

Dr. David Landy of Academics for Palestine and the IPSC looks at the latest Times HES survey of world university rankings which reveals some surprising truths about the state of the Israeli academy. One reason we are always told that we can never ever boycott Israel is because of its sterling academic reputation. Israel, we have heard on countless occasions, is a paragon of science, medicine and humanities. If we boycott Israel we’ll be boycotting the cutting-edgiest of high-tech, the most miraculous research in medicine, the inventors of… well, just about everything Well, it seems that such talk of Israeli … Continue reading

2012 Summary of the Cultural Boycott of Israel

The year 2012 was an amazing year full of many successes in the campaign for the cultural boycott of Israel.  This summary focuses on the cultural boycott with an emphasis on musical artists and groups. The fall of South African apartheid was preceded by the movement by artists of conscience to boycott “Sun City.”  A similar anti-apartheid movement is rapidly growing; and musicians increasingly do not want to perform in Israel. The Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Habima, Batsheva, and the Cameri Theater continued to be sent to perform abroad as “cultural ambassadors” for Israel.  This year people who oppose apartheid gathered … Continue reading

Not just for Christmas, and not just on Facebook – Israel’s racism and hostility towards Palestinians

A “thought for Christmas”, posted by the Israeli Embassy in Dublin on its official Facebook page this week, said that if Jesus Christ and his mother Mary were alive today they would “probably end up being lynched in Bethlehem by hostile Palestinians”. After an outcry and backlash at the racism on display, the post in question was removed and replaced with a mealy-mouthed apology. Subsequently, the entire ‘Israel in Ireland’ Facebook page was removed, at least temporarily. However, for those familiar with Israeli policy and public statements by official Israeli spokespeople and politicians, such derogatory words and overt displays of … Continue reading

Report: IPSC hold ‘Postcards for Palestine’ action at Israeli Embassy sponsored ‘Open House’ event

On a dark, cold and dreary evening in Dublin, members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) injected a little bit of lively colour into the twilight with a ‘Postcards for Palestine’ event. The event was organised at short notice to counteract an Israeli Embassy sponsored exhibition being launched in Dublin Civic Trust on Castle Street on Thursday 4th October inviting Dubliners to send postcards to Tel Aviv. The Israeli state sponsored event, shamefully held under the auspices of the Open House architectural festival, is the latest in a line of cultural propaganda events the state has recently staged … Continue reading

Video: Haneen Zoabi talk in Dublin: ‘Israel: Democracy, Racism & Apartheid – An Insider’s View’

This talk delivered by Palestinian member of the Israeli Parliament Haneen Zoabi MK was part of a tour organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and took place on August 7th 2012 in Wynn’s Hotel to a standing room only audience of over 160 people. This was a rare opportunity to find out directly from a public representative in the Israeli parliament how the self proclaimed “only democracy in the Middle East” truly functions. It was an informative and eye-opening experience, and will afforded those in attendance the opportunity to learn about issues relating to both the Israeli occupation of Palestine … Continue reading

Israeli Deputy Ambassador/Culture Officer in Dublin advocates intimidation and smearing human rights activists; suggests humiliating them by associating them with Mossad and ‘sexual identity problems’

In an exposé by Israel’s Channel 10 News, it has been revealed that Israel’s Deputy Ambassador to Ireland, Nurit Tinari-Modai, advocates a campaign of intimidation, smears and falsification against Israeli human rights activists who campaign in solidarity with Palestinians, and suggests that “sexual identity problems” lie behind such activism. Ms. Tinari-Modai, who is also the Culture Officer of the Israeli Embassy in Ireland and wife of the current Ambassador Boaz Modai, made the proposals in a diplomatic communiqué sent to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. According to the Channel 10 report, translated into English by Dena Shunra, Ms. Modai advocates working … Continue reading
