Take Action: IPSC calls for cancellation of Israel v Ireland U-21 game

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) reiterated calls for the cancellation of the away leg of the match between the Irish and Israeli U-21 teams, and for the expulsion of the Israeli FA from FIFA and UEFA due to Israel’s ongoing human rights abuses against the Palestinian people, including Palestinian sportspeople. The match is due to be played in Tel Aviv on 11th October, and when the home leg was played in Tallaght last year, the IPSC held a protest outside. We encourage our supporters to sign the following petition calling for the cancellation of the game and to write to … Continue reading

Justice v Apartheid: Israel’s attacks on Palestinian sport

Thursday’s protest outside the Dundalk FC v Maccabi Tel Aviv football match in Tallaght (7pm) will be a small act of solidarity with the people of Palestine who have suffered so much injustice, and continue to suffer daily, at the hands of the Israel’s apartheid regime due to the ongoing occupation of Palestine and the continual denial of rights to the Palestinian people. While there are those who insist that that sport and politics shouldn’t mix, we believe there is no place in sport for racism or teams who act as ambassadors for racist or apartheid states. As a member … Continue reading

Action Item: Sign petition ‘Remove UEFA 2013 European Under-21 Championship from Israel’

It took three months of hunger strike and the near death of a Palestinian footballer, held for three years without charge or trial under the ‘Unlawful Combatants Law’ which is itself illegal under international law, for the Israeli authorities to agree to a release deal. While we cautiously welcome the deal that should see Mahmoud Sarsak released on 10 July 2012, we are alarmed that Olympic squad goalkeeper Omar Abu Rois and Ramallah player Mohammed Nimr are also being held by Israel without charge. We maintain that a state which holds sportsmen as political prisoners is unfit to host an international sporting event. This … Continue reading

(Note – you can sign a petition calling on UEFA President Michel Platini to help secure release of ahmoud Sarsak held by UEFA member Israel … Continue reading

IPSC condemns abduction of Palestinian Theatre Director and ongoing Israeli attacks

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today condemned the detention of Nabil Al-Raee, the Artistic Director of the Jenin Freedom Theatre, by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank. Martin O’Quigley, IPSC Chairperson said, “the IPSC condmens this act of cultural repression by the Israeli occupation forces. The Freedom Theatre is an internationally renowned and respected artistic company. In light of this, and previous similar attacks on the theatre, this abduction can only be seen as a targeted act of intimidation and harassment of Palestinian artists by Israel’s apartheid regime”. Mr. Al-Raee was taken at approximately 3:15 am this morning when … Continue reading

Today, Tuesday 5th June, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) called on the Irish Government to intervene to save the lives of two Palestinian political prisoners, Mahmoud Sarsak and Akram Rikhawi who have been on hunger strike for 80 days and 55 days respectively. The IPSC also called on the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), the Irish Football Association (IFA), UEFA and FIFA to publicly raise the issue of Mr. Sarsak who is a member of the Palestinian national soccer team. Mahmoud Sarsak from Gaza’s Rafah refugee camp was detained by the Israeli military on July 22, 2009, when he … Continue reading
