Leading Irish human rights groups issue call to #FreeMahmoud Nawajaa!

In a letter published in today’s Irish Times, 18 leading Irish and Palestinian human rights and Palestine solidarity organisations have called for Israel to immediately release Palestinian human rights defender and prisoner of conscience Mahmoud Nawajaa, the General Coordinator of the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. “Mr Nawajaa is a human rights defender and community leader who has been imprisoned solely for exercising his rights to freedom of expression and association. He is therefore a prisoner of conscience, and he must be immediately and unconditionally released. Both the Irish Government and the EU must loudly echo this call … Continue reading

Sunset for international law? Israel’s annexation plan and the re-partition of Palestine

From the first of July the government of Israel is planning to bring forth legislation to unilaterally annex Israel’s illegal settlements and the Jordan Valley region of the Palestinian West Bank. This constitutes an area of roughly 30% of the West Bank, and will be in addition to Israel’s already illegal annexations of Palestinian East Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan Heights. This is an attempt to re-partition Palestine, and represents the latest phase in the ongoing Nakba endured by the Palestinian people. The annexation plan eliminates whatever diminished prospect still exists of achieving a viable sovereign independent state. In its … Continue reading

On eve of annexation, European Parliament shamefully consents to EU-Israel aviation agreement

Yesterday the European Parliament showed how empty the EU’s words of condemnation against Israel’s imminent annexation of parts of the occupied Palestinian West Bank are by voting to give consent to the ratification of the EU-Israel Aviation Agreement. While the EU ostensibly opposes Israel’s annexation of Palestinian land, with Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell saying that such a step “cannot pass unchallenged”, it has continued to lavish Israel with gifts. Last night’s vote is only the latest in a series of enticements from the EU to Israel, which have fuelled decades of impunity and human rights abuses against Palestinians. On … Continue reading

We are thrilled to hear that both Fianna Fáil and the Green Party have been … Continue reading

Take Action: COVID-19 Emergency – Gaza Needs You!

Last March, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation of the two million Palestinians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip gave cause for grave concern. Now, sadly, the worst has begun to come to pass; at the time of writing Gaza has seen at least 400 active cases, most of them from community transmission, with 3 deaths. This means that the coronavirus is at large and a serious threat to Gazan society, not least the estimated 50,000 Nakba survivors who live there. This disaster comes in the context of the apartheid state of Israel tightening the blockade of … Continue reading

In response to US reversal on settlements, IPSC calls for Irish ban on settlement trade

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the Trump administration’s statement that the United States will no longer consider Israeli colonial settlements in Palestine to be illegal. The Palestinian rights advocacy organisation further called on the Irish government to move beyond mere condemnations and act to ban trade with the illegal settlements by supporting Frances Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Chairperson, Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, said “This statement has zero legal validity under international law, and flies in the face of the long-established view held by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Irish government and every … Continue reading

WE’RE TAKING THE EU TO COURT – And we need your support to do it!

Earlier this year a coalition of European Palestine solidarity groups attempted to use the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism as a means to voice out our call for action against all illegal settlements. This is a mechanism under which 1 million European citizens can compel a debate on an issue of concern. In this case we wanted to see a proper debate on the EU’s legal obligations towards non-recognition of, and non-assistance to, illegal settlements in occupied territories, including Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However, the European Commission refused to even register our Initiative! It is clear, the Commission doesn’t want … Continue reading
