URGENT: As leaders meet TODAY to discuss OTB – Tell Leo Varadkar & Fine Gael it’s time to support the Bill!

The headline in today’s Irish Independent reads ‘Leaders meet with talks deadlocked over carbon taxes, housing and Israel’. The article goes on to say that a “crunch summit” TODAY “is expected to focus on proposals to ban the importation of Israeli goods produced in occupied Palestinian territories, as this issue has been passed on to the leaders after the negotiators could not reach agreement.” Your lobbying is working, together we have managed to push the Occupied Territories Bill to forefront of the government formation agenda! We are thrilled to hear that both Fianna Fáil and the Green Party have been … Continue reading

Take Action: COVID-19 Emergency – Gaza Needs You!

Last March, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation of the two million Palestinians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip gave cause for grave concern. Now, sadly, the worst has begun to come to pass; at the time of writing Gaza has seen at least 400 active cases, most of them from community transmission, with 3 deaths. This means that the coronavirus is at large and a serious threat to Gazan society, not least the estimated 50,000 Nakba survivors who live there. This disaster comes in the context of the apartheid state of Israel tightening the blockade of … Continue reading

Sign the petition: Stop Israeli killer drones from intensifying the EU’s border militarisation

These weeks are difficult times for all of us – and as we all need to protect our health, we also need to ensure that these are times of mutual care and not of complicity and corporate profit. It is now that our capacity to show solidarity is the most important. In this spirit, our partners in Stop the Wall and the European Coordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine (ECCP) have launched today Monday 30 – Palestinian Land Day and the anniversary of the Gaza initiated Great Return March – a petition to ask the EU #HealthcareNotWarfare: Stop using … Continue reading

In response to US reversal on settlements, IPSC calls for Irish ban on settlement trade

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the Trump administration’s statement that the United States will no longer consider Israeli colonial settlements in Palestine to be illegal. The Palestinian rights advocacy organisation further called on the Irish government to move beyond mere condemnations and act to ban trade with the illegal settlements by supporting Frances Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Chairperson, Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, said “This statement has zero legal validity under international law, and flies in the face of the long-established view held by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Irish government and every … Continue reading

WE’RE TAKING THE EU TO COURT – And we need your support to do it!

Earlier this year a coalition of European Palestine solidarity groups attempted to use the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism as a means to voice out our call for action against all illegal settlements. This is a mechanism under which 1 million European citizens can compel a debate on an issue of concern. In this case we wanted to see a proper debate on the EU’s legal obligations towards non-recognition of, and non-assistance to, illegal settlements in occupied territories, including Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. However, the European Commission refused to even register our Initiative! It is clear, the Commission doesn’t want … Continue reading

The signatories include nine trade union groups based in Ireland: the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU); Fórsa; the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA); Mandate; the Communications Workers Union (CWU), Unison NI, Unite the Union, and both Belfast and Derry Trade Union Councils. The EU considers Israeli settlements as illegal under international law, however it allows Israel to export large quantities of products produced or partly produced in illegal Israeli … Continue reading

Make Palestine an EU & Local Election Issue!

It’s that time of year again, when politicians come knocking on doors looking for your vote. This May there will be European and Local elections in Ireland north and south. While domestic issues are, as always, likely to dominate the discussions, we believe it is vitally important that the issue of Palestine is kept firmly in the minds and mouths of all our politicians. The very essence of the Palestine solidarity movement is to ‘think globally, act locally’ – and we have seen impressive local support for Palestinian freedom by many local councils over the past decade. We need to … Continue reading

EU Elections 2019: Where do the candidates stand on Palestine?

Last month we wrote to European Election candidates in all four Irish constituencies and asked them a series of four short questions about their positions on the Palestine-Israel issue, informing them that we would be publishing the answers so that those who care about Palestinian rights can be better informed when voting on polling day. Below we we are publishing all those answers we have received so far. Please note that Some of the candidates did not answer the questions directly and instead simply submitted their own wider positions. Not all candidates responded, but at least one representative from most … Continue reading

Action Item: Israeli Minister’s unprecedented attempt to close Irish bank accounts condemned, Irish govt action urged by human rights campaigners

Statement regarding the attempts by the Israeli government to force the closure the bank accounts of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other Irish human rights advocacy groups – we ask you to contact Ministers and your local TDs urging action to protect our work for Palestine: In a move that shows the extent to which Israel fears the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian rights, it was today revealed that the Israeli government is directly interfering with an Irish bank to attempt to close down the bank accounts of groups, including the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), that … Continue reading

Failure of Occupied Territories Bill to pass is a prescription for more of the same old inaction

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) expresses disappointment with last night’s failure by the Irish Seanad to pass the Occupied Territories Bill, which seeks to stop Irish trade with illegal settlements in occupied territories. The bill, sponsored by Senator Frances Black, and supported by Sinn Fein, Labour and independent Senators, but opposed by the main government party Fine Gael and largest opposition party Fianna Fáil, failed to pass its second reading, and a decision was taken to adjourn a vote until sometime before July. We urge everyone to keep putting pressure on politicians to support the bill in the meantime. Despite … Continue reading
