Israeli academic to speak in Dublin and Cork in support of academic boycott of Israel

Professor Haim Bresheeth, a renowned Israeli-born academic and documentary film-maker, will be speaking in colleges in Dublin and Cork next week in support of the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) and its conference resolution supporting an academic boycott of Israel. At its Annual Congress on Thursday 4th April 2013, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) became the first academic union in Europe to endorse the Palestinian call for an academic boycott of Israel. Report: Hunger for Justice relay hunger strike in solidarity with Samer Issawi ongoing in Cork

Invoking the memory of former mayor of Cork, Terence MacSwiney, the Cork branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has symbolically joined Palestinian prisoner Samer Issawi in his hunger strike for justice. Having collectively fasted for 24 hours on Saturday 20th April at a gathering in St. Patrick’s Street, members of Cork IPSC have started on a ‘hunger strike relay’, where each person will fast for 24 hours before handing the hunger baton to another member or supporter. Miko Peled, Israeli general’s son, backs TUI Israel boycott call

An Israeli writer whose father was a leading general in the 1967 war has warmly welcomed the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) support for an academic boycott of Israeli institutions. “It’s a particularly good time to be visiting Ireland,” Miko Peled said in Dublin tonight. “One of your teachers’ unions has just achieved a historic breakthrough for the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. “I welcome the TUI’s support for the academic boycott of Israel – the first such support from a European academic union. Report from Cork IPSC Fundraising Hill Walk

On a very sunny day, Sunday 15th of April, a sponsored hill walk took place in the Galtee Mountains in order to raise funds for the Cork Branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) in order to hold events to raise awareness of the illegal occupation of Palestine and highlight the ongoing struggles Palestinians face. Over €1000 was collected thanks to this cool operation. Over thirty people attended the walk alongside our two guides from Cork Rebel Hill Walking Group.
