DCI report shows Israel ‘directly targeted’ Palestinian children and violates IHL: Another reason to the end the Irish arms trade with Israel

In the latest of literally thousands of such reports dating back over decades, this week Defence For Children International produced a report entitled ‘Operation Protective Edge: A War Waged on Gaza’s Children’. The findings of the report merely add more weight to the call for an arms embargo on Israel and an end to the Irish arms trade with this rogue state. The report “found overwhelming and repeated evidence of international humanitarian law violations committed by Israeli forces. These included direct attacks on children, and indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilian homes, schools, and residential neighbourhoods”, that “Israel, the world’s … Continue reading

8 things you may have missed this week in Palestine

Irish media continues to frequently ignore important stories emerging from Palestine-Israel, stories that are vital to context setting and framing during those times when the issue actually does hit international headlines. By ignoring such stories, which expose the true nature of Palestinian life under military occupation and apartheid, the media can only be considered to be complicit via their silence. Therefore the IPSC continues with our new weekly round up of the most important stories that you may have missed if your only source of information is the Irish mainstream media. #1. Israel pressures UN to remove it from a … Continue reading

Netanyahu’s Victory Means It’s Time To Intensify BDS: 7 Simple Actions You Can Take To Support Justice For Palestine

Mass murdering war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, the butcher of Gaza, has emerged victorious in the Israeli general election, foisted to victory on the back of racist campaigning and a pledge for the permanent occupation of Palestine . As the IPSC pointed out, it really didn’t matter who came out on top in the election, the net result for Palestinians would still be occupation and apartheid – but the outcome is significant nonetheless. That Netanyahu and his party topped the poll for the third time in a row, and that the Zionist right in general did so well, should serve as … Continue reading

Take Action: Write to politicians and demand Irish government action

Dear supporters, following on from the Seanad recall debate on Gaza on Thursday 31st July, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan made it clear that Ireland would not support any meaningful concrete action aimed at ending either the Israeli onslaught on Gaza or Israeli impunity in general. We find this very disappointing, as Ireland has supported sanctions on other countries in the past. We are asking those of you who find this situation unacceptable – especially after the Irish abstention in the vote at the UN Human Rights Council – to write to the following people. Below we provide … Continue reading

Context and collective punishment: The aftermath of recent killings in the Palestine-Israel region

The IPSC deplores the brutal murder of the three young Israeli citizens whose remains were found on Monday near Hebron and the apparent ‘revenge’ murder of a Palestinian teenager reportedly carried out by Israeli extremists early Wednesday. Equally the IPSC deplores the deaths of all civilians killed in this conflict of unequals, including the six civilians killed by Israeli occupation forces since the Israeli teenagers were kidnapped. The IPSC is concerned that the unjustifiable killings of the three Israelis will be used to justify further killings, destruction and illegal settlement building in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT) by the Israeli … Continue reading

Baseball Cats And Dead Palestinians: The Irish media and the killings of Palestinian teens

Kevin Squires, National Coordinator of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has a written an article for the Irish magazine Rabble which looks at the Irish media and its shameful lack of coverage of the cold-blooded murder of two unarmed Palestinian teenagers last week, even though the killings were caught on video. Below is an excerpt [I]t seems the heavily edited Reuters piece wasn’t deemed newsworthy enough for the Irish Times website, where perhaps an expanded report could have been published, and the videos even embedded for readers to see for themselves. On the other hand, a fluff piece – with accompanying … Continue reading

Infographic: Convictions of Israeli military personel for deaths of Palestinians as of 2013

The Israeli human rights organization Yesh Din last week published statistics regarding investigations by the Israeli Military Police Criminal Investigations Department (MPCID) into the circumstances surrounding the death of Palestinians since September 2000, as well as figures for convictions and penalization relating to these incidents. This is what those figures look like: According to B’Tselem, at least 6,660* Palestinians have been killed to date by the Israeli occupation military forces in the occupied Palestinian territories since September 2000. The figures published by Yesh Din show that the MPCID opened only 179 criminal investigations concerning the killing of Palestinians by Israeli … Continue reading
