Occupied Palestine, 27 February 2013 — The BDS National Committee (BNC) mourns the tragic loss of our comrade, partner, and dear friend Stephane Hessel. A thoughtful and principled supporter of the global, Palestinian civil society-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Stephane Hessel exuded hope and inspiration. As a co-author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, he deeply appreciated the necessity of advocating for equal rights for all humans, regardless of identity. This and the fact that he is a Holocaust survivor were crucial factors behind his endorsement of BDS despite the high price he had to pay. He … Continue reading →

Now in it’s 9th year, Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual international series of events (including rallies, lectures, performances, films, multimedia displays and protest actions) held in cities and campuses across the globe. Last year was incredibly successful with over 215 cities taking part. IAW aims to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies towards the Palestinians and to build support for the growing campaign of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. This year the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is proud to be hosting a series of events in Ireland. * Click here to go to the IPSC’s ‘Israeli Apartheid … Continue reading →

Occupied Palestine, 15 February 2013 – The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), a broad coalition of the largest Palestinian civil society organizations, trade unions and NGO networks, supports the outcomes of the UN Fact Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements[1] that calls for boycotts and sanctions as measures required to end the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise. The BNC calls upon states, members of the Human Rights Council, to adopt the report, and on all governments and business enterprises to implement its recommendations. The BNC also calls upon conscientious citizens and civic organizations worldwide to use this report as … Continue reading →

The year 2012 was an amazing year full of many successes in the campaign for the cultural boycott of Israel. This summary focuses on the cultural boycott with an emphasis on musical artists and groups. The fall of South African apartheid was preceded by the movement by artists of conscience to boycott “Sun City.” A similar anti-apartheid movement is rapidly growing; and musicians increasingly do not want to perform in Israel. The Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Habima, Batsheva, and the Cameri Theater continued to be sent to perform abroad as “cultural ambassadors” for Israel. This year people who oppose apartheid gathered … Continue reading →

On September 18 the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament is set to vote on a new trade agreement with Israel. If passed, the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA) would remove barriers to trade between Israel and member states in industrial products, especially pharmaceuticals. Such an agreement would strengthen EU-Israel relations and would reward Israel for its continued violations of international law. The European Union claims to implement a policy of “positive engagement” with Israel. This policy has failed: despite numerous EU condemnations, Israel has continued its gross infringements of universal human rights with … Continue reading →

Please sign the following petition against the EU-Israel ACAA agreement which is being debated now in the European Parliament. The rejection of ACAA is important for the promotion of peace and justice. In its agreements with third countries, we believe that the EU should promote and respect human rights and fundamental values. The benefits brought by the adoption of such agreements should not be built on breaches of international law, unlawful or inequitable exploitation of resources and/or unfair and discriminatory practices. In the case of the EU-Israel ACAA, EU citizens do not want to benefit from Israeli control over Palestinian … Continue reading →

Statement from Palestinian Boycott National Committee (BNC) Occupied Palestine, 9th July 2012 Seven years after the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel was launched, the global BDS campaign has become stronger, more widespread, more effective and certainly more diverse than ever—a true cause for celebration by all those groups and conscientious citizens of the world who contributed to this success. However, Israel’s intensifying violations of international law and basic Palestinian rights, the direct threat Israel poses to the freedom of peoples across the region, and the impunity that Israel still enjoys are cause for … Continue reading →

In the interests of the public record, and standing accused by Gerard Donovan of “actively intimidat[ing] an Irish writer”, we are republishing the IPSC/PACBI Open Letter and introduction. ============ ORIGINAL STORY – POSTED ON MAY 7th 2012 Despite repeated attempts to contact Irish writer Gerard Donovan regarding his taking part in the International Writers’ Festival to be held in Jerusalem in May – which the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel have called for a boycott of – no response has been forthcoming*. EU facilitation of Israeli Apartheid must end The aim was to “highlight the European Union’s ongoing facilitation of Israel’s apartheid policies and war crimes against the Palestinian people. On Saturday 4 February 2012, members of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign joined London human rights campaigners in Hatton Garden, the centre of London’s jewellery trade, to raise awareness among shoppers and jewellers about the continuing sale of Israeli blood diamonds. Note: A similar action is taking place in Dublin this weekend on Saturday 11th February. See here for details. Israel is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and exporters of cut & polished diamonds which generate more than US$ 1 billion (about UK£ 600 million) a year for the Apartheid State. Many jewellers falsely claim Israeli diamonds are “conflict-free” … Continue reading →
