See the full list at https://www.ipsc.ie/pledge The Irish artists’ pledge was launched a decade ago, initiated by renowned composer, and IPSC co-founder, Raymond Deane. Today, Palestinian human rights defender and General Coordinator of the BDS Movement, Mahmoud Nawajaa, was released by an Israeli military court, after 19 days of illegal detention without charges. Since his arrest on July 30, the Israeli internal security Shin Bet has failed to present any formal charges against him. His release comes on the back of an intensive global campaign to pressure Israel to free him. Palestinian and international civil society organisations like the Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC), Front Line Defenders, Amnesty International and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) called and campaigned for his release … Continue reading →

In a letter published in today’s Irish Times, 18 leading Irish and Palestinian human rights and Palestine solidarity organisations have called for Israel to immediately release Palestinian human rights defender and prisoner of conscience Mahmoud Nawajaa, the General Coordinator of the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. “Mr Nawajaa is a human rights defender and community leader who has been imprisoned solely for exercising his rights to freedom of expression and association. He is therefore a prisoner of conscience, and he must be immediately and unconditionally released. Both the Irish Government and the EU must loudly echo this call … Continue reading →

Today, November 29th, is International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and we in the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) send greetings of solidarity from Ireland to Palestinians everywhere as they struggle for their freedom and self-determination. The UN chose this day, 29th November, to mark the shameful day in 1947 when the UN voted to partition Palestine against the wishes of the indigenous people – an act that would lead to the ethnic cleansing of over 750,000 Palestinians during the Nakba (catastrophe) between 1947 and 1949. 70 years on, Palestinians continue to suffer the disastrous consequences of that imperial … Continue reading →

The Irish Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation John Halligan is on an official visit to the Palestine-Israel region at the moment. We are informed that as part of his itinerary he is due to meet Naftali Bennett, the Israeli Minster for Education, to discuss “innovation and education”. Bennett is one of the most reprehensible and racist figures in the current Israeli government, which itself is widely considered to be the most extremist in Israel’s history. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) believes that such a meeting should not take place, and furthermore, that there should be no cooperation … Continue reading →

Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, has condemned attacks on human rights defenders and affirmed the right of European citizens to freedom of expression and association, including through participation in the global Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. In response to a question on whether the EU commission will commit to defending BDS activists’ right to exercise their democratic freedom of expression, put forward by MEP Martina Anderson, the EU High Representative stated: “The EU stands firm in protecting freedom of expression and freedom of association in line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the … Continue reading →

The following letter was sent by the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee and the European Coordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine to the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in protest at an EU official speaking alongside an illegal settler leader at an anti-BDS conference in Israel. This is a shameful move by the EU, showing that it is willing help Israel fight the nonviolent civil society BDS movement for justice for Palestinians, but totally unwilling to take concrete action on illegal colonial settlements or Israeli war crimes. The messagethis sends to Israel is obvious – ‘carry on … Continue reading →
