Irish Day of Action: Boycott Puma – Sponsor of Apartheid Israel (25-26 Oct)

Answering the Palestinian call for a global day of action, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other groups will be holding a series of actions around Ireland on the 25th and 26th October 2019. We are calling for a boycott of Puma due to their continued sponsorship of the Football Association of Apartheid Israel. The Israeli FA allows teams based in Israel’s colonial settlements in occupied Palestine to be members, despite the illegality of these settlements. Puma claims to care about human rights, but its actions prove that it doesn’t. We need to send a message to Puma that their enabling … Continue reading

Barclays bank no longer listed as Elbit Systems shareholder

British high street bank Barclays is no longer listed as a shareholder in Elbit Systems, the major Israeli military company that manufactures drones used in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians and helps Israel build its illegal Apartheid wall. The news follows a high profile campaign launched after Barclays emerged as the named owner of $2.9 million worth of shares in Elbit. More than 1.7 million people signed a petition organised by Avaaz calling on Barclays to divest from Elbit Systems and campaigners have occupied and protested at bank branches across the Britain and the north of Ireland. Caterpillar jobs announcement in Belfast marred by association with human rights abuses

The announcement of 200 new jobs in an economically deprived area of West Belfast has been widely welcomed. Unfortunately the company providing these jobs, Caterpillar, has a record that is not something to celebrate. Caterpillar is the subject of an international divestment campaign because its equipment has been routinely used by Israel to demolish Palestinian homes and destroy farmland. It is also used in the building of illegal settlements and wall in the occupied Palestinian territories. Furthermore, Caterpillar bulldozers have also killed several people, including the crushing to death of US human rights activist Rachel Corrie ten years ago next … Continue reading
