The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is asking our members and supporters to make Justice for Palestine an issue in the 2016 Irish General Election. To make it easier for people, we have produced a short handout with three important questions to ask canvassers on the doorsteps, and have initiated a campaign asking the candidates to take the #PalestinePledges in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality. The handout contains questions and important information related to a) the Irish arms trade with Israel,  b) the EuroMed Agreement between the EU and Israel, and c) the call for a … Continue reading

Israel’s system of permanent violence: The new Palestinian uprising in context

There has been an upsurge of violence in the Palestine-Israel region since October 1st. Settler attacks on Palestinians, which had been running at between 50 and 80 per month, have surged to over 120 attacks in the first week of October. These attacks include firebombings, shootings, burning crops and stoning houses – often under the protection of the army.[1] Israeli army and police have brutally attacked West Bank Palestinian demonstrators, with over 1,300 people injured by live and rubber-coated bullets. Against this background of widespread colonial violence against Palestinians, condemned by human rights groups like Amnesty International, there have been … Continue reading

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has distributed the following important and informative new briefing paper to members of the Oireachtas, members of the European Parliament and members of local Irish councils. Titled Israel 2015: A government of extremists in charge of an-out-of control military, the paper is an in-depth investigation the extremist nature of the new Israeli government, the shocking views of its leading members, and the appalling recent record of the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza. Irish arms trade with Israel criticised in the Irish parliament

Independent TD Clare Daly, and Sinn Fein’s Pádraig Mac Lochlainn raised the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s campaign to end the Irish arms trade with Israel in the Dail (Irish parliament) last Thursday 25th June. Unfortunately, Minister for Defence Simon Coveney’s answer is merely the same tired old sloganeering about “a lasting peace process and a lasting solution” seemingly without being willing to take any concrete, meaningful action whatsoever to advance such an outcome. Decades of treating both the the coloniser and the colonised as ‘equals’ in a ‘conflict’ has produced nothing but an entrenchment of Israeli colonialism. It’s time for a … Continue reading

Taoiseach says shocking Israeli government statements not aimed at bringing about peace: Campaigners urge sanctions on Israel

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today welcomed An Taoiseach [Irish Prime Minister] Enda Kenny’s statement that shocking anti-Palestinian statements by members of the new Israeli cabinet are “not part of a philosophy of a democratic government working to bring about peace”. However, the IPSC remains disappointed; despite this recognition of the true character of the Netanyahu administration, the Irish government continues to refuse to implement any meaningful sanctions on Israel thereby allowing it to continue acting with impunity towards Palestinians. By not implementing sanctions our government is tacitly permitting Israel’s commission of human rights and international law violations. Responding to … Continue reading

Inquiry finds Israel guilty of targetting UN shelters and schools in Gaza – Take action to end the arms trade with Israel now

A secret inquiry by the United Nations, parts of which have been leaked to the public, says that Israel was “responsible for striking seven United Nations sites used as civilian shelters” during its assault on Gaza last summer. The report highlights once again the absolute necessity of imposing an arms embargo on Israel, thereby ending the Irish arms trade with this rogue state. Parts of the report, leaked to the Guardian newspaper, state that: * Israel was responsible for striking seven United Nations sites used as civilian shelters during the 2014 Gaza war in which 44 Palestinians died and 227 … Continue reading

DCI report shows Israel ‘directly targeted’ Palestinian children and violates IHL: Another reason to the end the Irish arms trade with Israel

In the latest of literally thousands of such reports dating back over decades, this week Defence For Children International produced a report entitled ‘Operation Protective Edge: A War Waged on Gaza’s Children’. The findings of the report merely add more weight to the call for an arms embargo on Israel and an end to the Irish arms trade with this rogue state. The report “found overwhelming and repeated evidence of international humanitarian law violations committed by Israeli forces. These included direct attacks on children, and indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilian homes, schools, and residential neighbourhoods”, that “Israel, the world’s … Continue reading

Barclays bank no longer listed as Elbit Systems shareholder

British high street bank Barclays is no longer listed as a shareholder in Elbit Systems, the major Israeli military company that manufactures drones used in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians and helps Israel build its illegal Apartheid wall. The news follows a high profile campaign launched after Barclays emerged as the named owner of $2.9 million worth of shares in Elbit. More than 1.7 million people signed a petition organised by Avaaz calling on Barclays to divest from Elbit Systems and campaigners have occupied and protested at bank branches across the Britain and the north of Ireland. 8 things you may have missed this week in Palestine

Irish media continues to frequently ignore important stories emerging from Palestine-Israel, stories that are vital to context setting and framing during those times when the issue actually does hit international headlines. Therefore the IPSC continues with our new weekly round up of the most important stories that you may have missed if your only source of information is the Irish mainstream media. #1. Israel pressures UN to remove it from a … Continue reading

Netanyahu’s Victory Means It’s Time To Intensify BDS: 7 Simple Actions You Can Take To Support Justice For Palestine

Mass murdering war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, the butcher of Gaza, has emerged victorious in the Israeli general election, foisted to victory on the back of racist campaigning and a pledge for the permanent occupation of Palestine . As the IPSC pointed out, it really didn’t matter who came out on top in the election, the net result for Palestinians would still be occupation and apartheid – but the outcome is significant nonetheless. That Netanyahu and his party topped the poll for the third time in a row, and that the Zionist right in general did so well, should serve as … Continue reading
