Amnesty condemns Israeli Apartheid and calls for international action to end oppression of Palestinians

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has praised today’s publication of a detailed new report by Amnesty International showing that Israel is committing the crime against humanity of Apartheid against the Palestinian people. The 211 page report, entitled ‘Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime Against Humanity’, is the latest in a long line of human rights organisations levelling similar charges against Israel. It calls for international sanctions, including an arms embargo, against the Israeli state and individuals implicated in these crimes, for the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli Apartheid, and for the United Nations to re-establish the Special Committee against … Continue reading

IPSC condemns attempts to criminalise and intimidate Palestinian human rights defenders

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) unreservedly condemns a military order issued last week by the Israeli Ministry of Defence that aims to criminalise and ban six prominent, highly respected and effective Palestinian human rights organisations. The groups in question are Defense for Children International Palestine, Al-Haq, Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, Bisan Center for Research and Development and the Union of Palestinian Women Committees. This is a dangerous and deplorable decision, the culmination of decades of the Israeli state’s attempts to smear, silence and shut down Palestinian civil society organisations and to … Continue reading

He is therefore a prisoner of conscience, and he must be immediately and unconditionally released. Both the Irish Government and the EU must loudly echo this call … Continue reading

Al-Qiq is being held without charge or trial under Israel’s system of administrative detention, and his wife Fayha Shalash has said that “[Mohammad’s] decision is very clear: either free or dead, not in between”. Amnesty International has stated that Israel’s use of non consensual medical intervention in this case is in violation of the prohibition of torture, and … Continue reading

5 things you may have missed this week in Palestine

Irish media continues to frequently ignore important stories emerging from Palestine-Israel, stories that are vital to context setting and framing during those times when the issue actually does hit international headlines. By ignoring such stories, which expose the true nature of Palestinian life under military occupation and apartheid, the media can only be considered to be complicit via their silence. Therefore the IPSC continues with our new weekly round up of the most important stories that you may have missed if your only source of information is the Irish mainstream media. #1. At least 2 Palestinians were among the 40 … Continue reading

Context and collective punishment: The aftermath of recent killings in the Palestine-Israel region

The IPSC deplores the brutal murder of the three young Israeli citizens whose remains were found on Monday near Hebron and the apparent ‘revenge’ murder of a Palestinian teenager reportedly carried out by Israeli extremists early Wednesday. Equally the IPSC deplores the deaths of all civilians killed in this conflict of unequals, including the six civilians killed by Israeli occupation forces since the Israeli teenagers were kidnapped. The IPSC is concerned that the unjustifiable killings of the three Israelis will be used to justify further killings, destruction and illegal settlement building in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT) by the Israeli … Continue reading

Action Item: Stop G4S – Ask Minister to reject G4S tender for JobPath due to complicity in Israeli human rights violations

The Anglo-Danish security firm G4S is one of a number of private companies bidding for the JobPath contract with the Irish state. Amongst other things, G4S is notorious for its operations and service provision within the Israeli prison system. IMPORTANT UPDATE: It was announced on Friday 6th June by G4S that it will pull out of the Israeli prison regime within three years. But as Randa Wahbe of Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association notes, ” this has no immediate effect on those facing human rights violations inside Israel’s prisons today [and] G4S has a long track record of … Continue reading
