What you can do

What you can do

As the international community has been unwilling and unable to hold Israel accountable to international law, or at least to end its unchallenged impunity, it is left to the citizens of every country to take action to end Israel’s crimes and to end the direct involvement on those crimes by companies servicing us. Join with others to raise the issue in any place where Veolia is operating; unite with colleagues in your workplace or university; take up the issue with your trade union; lobby your council.

Be heard.

1 .      Write, fax or phone Veolia direct

Write to the CEOs or Chairpersons of Veolia Environmental Services, Veolia Water Ireland and Veolia Transdev, asking them to get the parent company, Veolia Environnement to withdraw Veolia Transport from the CityPass  Consortium and the Jerusalem tramway project.  info@veolia-transport.ie tel 01 469 4610

4.       Lobby your local council

Veolia have recently sold their waste business in Ireland however they are still providing water and energy services. Check what services they are providing to your local council and encourage your council to exclude Veolia from bidding for future contracts (whether they have an existing contract or not) or to cancel existing contracts at the earliest opportunity. Tell them why they shouldn’t enter into any contracts with Veolia and encourage them to switch to another contractor.

For council contacts see your local council website. http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/LocalGovernmentAdministration/LocalAuthorities

Prototype Council Motion

1. That Veolia is a leading partner in the consortium contracted to build a light railway system linking Israel to illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem

2. That the Irish government and the U.N does not recognise Israel’s annexation and occupation of East Jerusalem and have repeatedly stated their views that the Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank contravene international law

3. That Veolia’s involvement in the project is in contravention of the UN’s stated demand that Israeli settlement activities and occupation should not be supported;

This Council calls on the City/County/Town (strike out as relevant) Manager not to sign any new or renew any existing contracts with Veolia as it would be in contravention of the wishes of this council.

5.       Write to your pension fund manager

Write to the managers of your pension fund urging them not to invest funds in any Veolia or Alstom company.  Alstom are also part of the Citypass consortium and build the trams.

6.       Don’t co-operate with Veolia

Delay or refuse to pay water charges to Veolia.  Tell them why.
