Take Action: Irish Government must condemn criminalisation of Palestinian human rights defenders by Apartheid Israel

On 22nd October, Apartheid Israel moved to criminalise and ban six prominent civil society organisations, an escalation in its systematic targeting of human rights defenders, and an attempt to evade accountability for its violations of international law.

The six organisations are: Addameer, Al-Haq, Bisan Center for Research and Development, Defense for Children International – Palestine, Union of Agricultural Work Committees, and Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees.

They are all internationally renowned, principled, and effective Palestinian human rights organisations doing critical work protecting women’s rights, supporting famers impacted by Israel’s illegal land grabs, and supporting the rights of political prisoners arbitrarily arrested and detained, including children. The attack on these organisations creates an immediate risk for their staff members, and leaves Palestinians more vulnerable to continuing violations of their rights.

On top of their grassroots work in Palestine, these six organisations are vocal in international forums like the UN and the International Criminal Court, pushing for accountability and justice. Their grassroots work on the ground in Palestine and their effective accountability work internationally makes them primary challenges to the continuation of Israel’s apartheid regime; that’s why they are being targeted.

Israel’s draconian crackdown on Palestinian human rights defenders has been unequivocally condemned by UN human rights experts, international human rights organisations, and Israeli human rights advocates.

The Irish government must join this chorus of condemnation – so we ask you to take a few minutes to send the below email (or your own version) to Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney, and Minister of State for EU Affairs, Thomas Byrne.

You can also send a copy of the letter to your local TDs by finding their email addresses on theWhoIsMyTD website.

Finally you can also add your name to the global petition here!

GDPR Notice: A copy of this email is sent to the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign so we can track campaign numbers, and will be deleted within 12 months.
