[Newbridge] Film Screening: Omar

The latest film from director Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) is a thrilling action movie that contains provocative and pertinent political concerns, even more poignant now in the light of recent events in Gaza. Omar is accustomed to dodging surveillance bullets to cross the separation wall to visit his secret love Nadia. The sensitive young baker becomes a freedom fighter who must face painful choices about life and manhood. After Omar is captured, suspicion and betrayal jeopardize his longtime trust of childhood friends Amjad and Tarek, Nadia’s militant brother. Omar’s feelings quickly become as torn apart as the Palestinian landscape.
