[Belfast] Palestine Day at Feile an Phobail: ‘The European Union and Palestine – Partner for Peace or Partner in Oppression?’ (IPSC)

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s annual Palestine Day during Belfast’s Feile and Phobail returns on Thursday 7th August 2014.

The European Union and Palestine: Partner for Peace or Partner in Oppression?
Date: Thursday 7th August, from 2pm
Venue: St Mary’s University College, Falls Road, Belfast
The European Union cites its involvement with Israel and Palestine as being one that facilitates the peace process and protects and encourages the respect for human rights. This year’s event examines these claims. In the afternoon Brussels based activist, journalist and author David Cronin will speak on his book, Europe’s Alliance with Israel: Aiding the Occupation, before joining us to hand in of a protest letter at the EU Offices.
In the evening there will be further discussion on the role the EU plays in Israel and Palestine with individual presentations from and a panel discussion featuring Martina Anderson MEP, David Cronin and Miri Weingarten, European Advocacy Officer for Adalah; the Public Committee Against Torture; and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel.
The day should appeal to those who wish to understand how they as Europeans can contribute to a just peaceful for Israelis and Palestinians.

2:00-3:30 David Cronin, Author, Activist, Journalist: The European Union Alliance with Israel (Lecture followed by audience led discussion)
4:00-4:30 Handing in a letter of protest at European Union Offices, Shaftesbury Square
7:00-9:00 Individual Presentations followed by an audience led panel discussion, featuring
