In Pictures: IPSC protest at CRH 2013 AGM

On the morning of Wednesday 8 May Irish multinational CRH will held their Annual General Meeting in the Royal Marine Hotel, in Dun Laoghaire. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a small protest outside the venue. The IPSC organised this protest because CRH owns 25% of the Israeli company Mashav Initiative and Development Ltd which, in turn, owns Israel’s sole cement producer Nesher Cement Enterprises Ltd. Nesher provide up to 90% of all cement sold in Israel, including cement used in the construction of Israel’s illegal separation wall in Palestine and illegal settlements and checkpoints. We are calling on CRH to … Continue reading

Video: Qalandia checkpoint action against CRH’s role in the Apartheid Wall

crhqal

Yesterday, March 27th, the complicity and criminality of Irish multinational cement giant CRH in aiding and abetting the occupation was highlighted at the notorious Israeli checkpoint at Qalandia in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian activists mounted a large banner on Israel’s illegal Apartheid-Annexation Wall  condemning CRH’s role in providing cement through Nesher Israel Cement Enterprises Ltd for the Wall, the building of illegal settlements and Jerusalem light railway and other illegal projects in breach of the Geneva Conventions.   Video courtesy of Tommy D. Caterpillar jobs announcement in Belfast marred by association with human rights abuses

cat.d9

The announcement of 200 new jobs in an economically deprived area of West Belfast has been widely welcomed. Unfortunately the company providing these jobs, Caterpillar, has a record that is not something to celebrate. Caterpillar is the subject of an international divestment campaign because its equipment has been routinely used by Israel to demolish Palestinian homes and destroy farmland. It is also used in the building of illegal settlements and wall in the occupied Palestinian territories. Furthermore, Caterpillar bulldozers have also killed several people, including the crushing to death of US human rights activist Rachel Corrie ten years ago next … Continue reading

IPSC welcomes University of California Irvine student government resolution on divestment from Israel

120808-uc-solidarity

We would like to express our wholehearted support for the University of California Irvine student government’s stand for human rights and justice, in the form of its November 2012 divestment resolution. This resolution is a firm, clear sighted statement based on a commitment to justice and an understanding of the importance of ensuring that international companies comply with human rights and international law. The companies mentioned in the resolution all have an ongoing record of complicity in illegal Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories. They are all engaged in well-documented and flagrant breaches of basic human rights norms, and … Continue reading

Not just for Christmas, and not just on Facebook – Israel’s racism and hostility towards Palestinians

xmastree

A “thought for Christmas”, posted by the Israeli Embassy in Dublin on its official Facebook page this week, said that if Jesus Christ and his mother Mary were alive today they would “probably end up being lynched in Bethlehem by hostile Palestinians”. After an outcry and backlash at the racism on display, the post in question was removed and replaced with a mealy-mouthed apology. Subsequently, the entire ‘Israel in Ireland’ Facebook page was removed, at least temporarily. However, for those familiar with Israeli policy and public statements by official Israeli spokespeople and politicians, such derogatory words and overt displays of … Continue reading

The acclaimed documentary film about the nonviolent resistance movement to Israel’s apartheid wall and settlements in the Palestinian village of Bil’in, Five Broken Cameras, has notched up another award – this time as part of the Irish Film Institute’s ‘Stranger Than Fiction’ documentary film festival. The film by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi, won the Audience Award – meaning it was voted by film-goers as the best film in the festival. BDS at 7! – Celebrating, reflecting and further mainstreaming

bdslogo

Statement from Palestinian Boycott National Committee (BNC) Occupied Palestine, 9th July 2012 Seven years after the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel was launched, the global BDS campaign has become stronger, more widespread, more effective and certainly more diverse than ever—a true cause for celebration by all those groups and conscientious citizens of the world who contributed to this success. However, Israel’s intensifying violations of international law and basic Palestinian rights, the direct threat Israel poses to the freedom of peoples across the region, and the impunity that Israel still enjoys are cause for … Continue reading
