A century of colonisation: Balfour Declaration centenary marked with protest at British Embassy in Dublin

Today the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) and the Balfour Declaration Centenary Campaign (BDCC), joined by members of the Palestinian community, hosted a symbolic demonstration outside the British Embassy in Dublin to commemorate the centenary of the Balfour Declaration. At the gathering, the IPSC handed in a letter calling for Britain to take action to atone for its historic and ongoing role in Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people. In Pictures: Over 23,000 people call for an end to the Irish arms trade with Israel

Today, Wednesday 4th October 2017, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign presented the Irish Government with over 23,000 signatures to a petition demanding an end to bilateral arms trade between Israel and Ireland. Human rights campaigners were joined by TDs and Senators from the Oireachtas [Irish parliament], and Dublin City Councillors, outside the parliament gates where a ‘die in’ was staged. WATCH: National Demonstration for Freedom & Justice in Palestine

On Saturday 10th June around 1,500 people from all over Ireland (and further afield) marched in a National Demonstration to mark the 50th anniversary of Israel’s occupation and illegal colonisation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) organised the event to convey a simple message, that  ‘100 years of injustice & 50 years of occupation is enough! In Pictures: New Year’s Eve Vigils for Palestine in Dublin and Sligo

On New Year’s Eve, members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign in both Dublin and Sligo took to the streets to see out 2016 with displays of solidarity with the people of Palestine who face into another year of oppression, occupation, colonisation and injustice at the hands of the apartheid Israeli state. The gatherings were to mark the eighth anniversary of the 2008/09 massacre called ‘Operation Cast Lead’, when Israeli occupation forces attacked Gaza for 23 days killing over 1,400 Palestinians, including more than 300 children. On Thursday 26th August, IPSC branches in Galway, Newbridge and Portadown organised solidarity protests against the ongoing siege and renewed bombing of Gaza, and calling for freedom for Palestinian hunger strike Bilal Kayed, who ended his fast after 71 days without food. In pictures: Raising awareness for Palestinian Prisoners’ Day

Today, April 17th, is Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. Yesterday IPSC branches in Dublin and Portadown hosted information stalls dedicated to the issue of political prisoners in Apartheid Israel’s jails – where torture and other physical and psychological ill treatment, denial of visitation rights, terrible food and appalling conditions are routine. Since 1967 Israeli has imprisoned over 800,000 Palestinians – around 1/4 of the male population in the OPT – and currently holds over 7,640 political prisoners, including 700 internees, 68 women and 420 children, the youngest being a 12-year-old girl. To mark the 67th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, on Saturday 16th May 2014 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign will held a ‘Nakba Moving Gallery’ on Saturday 16th May. Over 100 people – Palestinians, Irish and other nationalities – assembled at at the Grafton Street entrance to St. Stephen’s Green and walked to the Spire on O’Connell Street. On the evening of Thursday April 9th 2015 a large number of members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a protest in solidarity with Palestinians being attacked in Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria, which had been overrun by ISIS fighters. It took place outside the GPO on O’Connell Street in Dublin. Between 7th and 14th March 2015 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign was proud to be a part of the 11th Israeli Apartheid Week, an annual international series of events including rallies, lectures, performances, films, multimedia displays and protest actions held in cities and campuses across the globe. This year saw over 200 cities taking part in 30 countries on all five continents. The aim of Israeli apartheid week is to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies towards the Palestinians and to build support for the growing Palestinian-led campaign of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. 8000 strong petition handed to Dunnes Stores calling for a boycott of illegal Israeli settlement goods

On Wednesday 17th December members and supporters of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign handed in a petition signed by over 8,000 people calling on Irish supermarket chain Dunnes Stores to make a public commitment that their outlets will not stock goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The petition – signatures for which were collected on streets around Ireland during 2014 – was initiated to coincide with the 30th Anniversary of the 1984 Dunnes Stores anti-Apartheid strike by IDATU (now called Mandate) trade union members in Dublin’s Henry Street, and calls on Dunnes to support justice for … Continue reading
