Israeli Apartheid Week 2013 – Ireland: 23rd February to 1st March

Now in it’s 9th year, Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual international series of events (including rallies, lectures, performances, films, multimedia displays and protest actions) held in cities and campuses across the globe. Last year was incredibly successful with over 215 cities taking part. IAW aims to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies towards the Palestinians and to build support for the growing campaign of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. During the week of 20th to 27th February the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other groups marked the 8th Annual Israeli Apartheid Week with a series of actions and awareness raising events in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Belfast. On Thursday 23rd February, as part of Israeli Apartheid Week 2012, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) was proud to present the Irish Premiere of the brand new film ‘Roadmap to Apartheid’ by film-makers Ana Nogueira & Eron Davidson. The 90 minute documentary film, takes a look at the current situation in Palestine through the lens of South African Apartheid; comparing the two regimes in a manner not flattering for the Israeli state. World renowned award-winning dissident Israeli journalist Gideon Levy spoke in Dublin’s Trinity College on Wednesday March 9th as part of Israeli Apartheid Week 2011 in an event organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Levy, an acclaimed critic of Israel’s brutal policies towards the Palestinian people via his column in the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz, was launching his book The Punishment of Gaza.
