Israeli Apartheid Week 2018 – Events In Ireland (3 – 10 March)

Celebrating 14 years! Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual international series of events held across the globe. Each year, Israeli Apartheid Week takes place across the world. It aims to raise awareness about Israel’s ongoing settler-colonial project, apartheid policies over the Palestinian people, and to build support for the growing campaign of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. Please join us in making the the 14th Israeli Apartheid Week one of the biggest yet. A report released earlier this year by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) proves beyond doubt that Israel has imposed a system of … Continue reading

Failure of Occupied Territories Bill to pass is a prescription for more of the same old inaction

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) expresses disappointment with last night’s failure by the Irish Seanad to pass the Occupied Territories Bill, which seeks to stop Irish trade with illegal settlements in occupied territories. The bill, sponsored by Senator Frances Black, and supported by Sinn Fein, Labour and independent Senators, but opposed by the main government party Fine Gael and largest opposition party Fianna Fáil, failed to pass its second reading, and a decision was taken to adjourn a vote until sometime before July. We urge everyone to keep putting pressure on politicians to support the bill in the meantime. Despite … Continue reading

In Pictures: Solidarity with Ahed Tamimi and All Palestinian Child Prisoners

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, in association with Students for Justice in Palestine and United Against Racism organised a solidarity vigil to protest the imprisonment of Ahed Tamimi and all Palestinian child prisoners outside the gates of the Dail (Irish Parliament) at lunchtime on Thursday 25th January 2018. The protest was well attended with many members of the Irish parliament attending including TDs Dessie Ellis, Maureen O’Sullivan, Pat Buckley, Richard Boyd Barret, Gino Kenny, Paul Murphy, Aengus Ó Snodaigh, Maurice Quinlivan, John Brady and Joan Collins, and Senators David Norris, Padraig MacLochlainn, Alice Mary Higgins, Niall Ó Donnghaile and Grace O’Sullivan. … Continue reading

Ban Settlement Goods: Take Action to Support the Occupied Territories Bill

UPDATE 2 (31st Jan 2018): Unfortunately the bill was debated but not voted on, and a vote has been adjourned until sometime before July. It is worth noting that it was supported by Sinn Fein, Labour and many independent Senators, but opposed by the main government party Fine Gael and largest opposition party Fianna Fáil. Despite welcoming the strong and unequivocal condemnation of illegal Israeli settlements by all contributors to the debate, including the Táiniste and Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, we believe the failure of the Seanad to pass this bill at this juncture is, sadly, merely a prescription for … Continue reading

Israel’s blacklist of human rights orgs is appalling, anti-democratic, and a badge of honour for BDS

Although long suspected, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) yesterday learned via news reports that the organisation is one of 20 human rights advocacy groups on an official Israeli state blacklist, meaning that its members are banned from entering Israel, and thus, from entering Israeli-occupied Palestine. The Israeli apartheid regime fears solidarity so much it seeks to stop us from visiting our friends and colleagues in the Palestine-Israel region. Although appalling, saddening and manifestly anti-democratic, the IPSC views its appearance on this list as a badge of honour and a vindication of our work in solidarity with the people of Palestine … Continue reading

In Pictures: Ringing in the New Year in solidarity with Palestine

To commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Israeli ‘Operation Cast Lead’ attack on Gaza, and to highlight Israeli’s ongoing brutality coupled with the cruel and illegal siege of Gaza, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) staged a series of solidarity vigils around Ireland on New Years’ Eve. Protesters gathered on the Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge, Sligo’s Hyde Bridge, Derry’s Peace Bridge, Thomas Street in Limerick, in Galway’s Eyre Square, and even on the Cliffs of Moher to remember the victims of the attacks on Gaza in 2008/9, 2012, 2014 and all the killings that have taken place over the past three years, … Continue reading

Take Action: Ask soprano Celine Byrne not to sing for Apartheid Israel

Dear Friends, Irish soprano Celine Byrne is scheduled to perform as Donna Elvira in ‘Don Giovanni’ with the Israeli Opera from February 8th to 23rd 2018. Such a performance would be a breach of the Palestinian call for a cultural boycott of Israel which asks international artists to refrain from normalising Israel’s regime of settler colonialism, military occupation and vicious apartheid by refusing to perform there. Since 2006 the Israeli government has been engaged in an aggressive public relations campaign known as ‘Brand Israel’ which, in the words of Nissim Ben-Shitrit, the former head of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, promotes “culture … Continue reading

In Pictures: Hands Off Jerusalem protest at US Embassy in Dublin

In protest at the Trump Administration’s decision to recognise Israeli-occupied Jerusalem as the capital of apartheid Israel and move the US Embassy there, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) held an emergency lunchtime demonstration outside the US Embassy in Dublin on a bitterly cold Friday, 8th December. A large number of people gathered to denounce the move, and there were speeches from the Lord Mayor Of Dublin Micheál Mac Donncha, Dublin City Councillor John Lyons, and Martin O’Quigley from the IPSC. A letter of protest was handed in to the Embassy, reading: We are writing on behalf of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity … Continue reading

BDS Movement statement on US decision to recognise Jerusalem as capital of apartheid Israel

We carry below an official statement from the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee, the leadership of the global BDS movement. The IPSC has called an emergency lunchtime protest against the move this Friday 8th December between 1pm and 2pm: U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the “capital of Israel” is an appalling attempt to give legitimacy to Israel’s illegal control of the city by a xenophobic and racist U.S. administration whose own legitimacy is precarious at best. This anti-Palestinian and illegal act reverses decades of official U.S. policy regarding Jerusalem and contradicts the … Continue reading
