On Saturday 16th February 2013, a talk entitled ‘How the EU aids the occupation of Palestine’ was given as part of the EU Presidency Counter Summit in Dublin’s Liberty Hall. The speakers were David Cronin (journalist and author of Europe’s Alliance With Israel: Aiding the Occupation), Zoe Lawlor (Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, recently returned from a factfinding trip to Gaza) and Tanja Niemeier (Adviser on Trade for the European United Left) . During the week of 20th to 27th February the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other groups marked the 8th Annual Israeli Apartheid Week with a series of actions and awareness raising events in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Belfast. Tuesday 1st November saw the launch of Professor David Landy’s Jewish Identity and Palestinian Rights: Diaspora Opposition to Israel (Zed, 2011) at a standing room only event in Dublin’s New Theatre. The book is an outstanding, ground-breaking examination of the relatively recent phenomenon of organised international Jewish criticism of Israel. World renowned award-winning dissident Israeli journalist Gideon Levy spoke in Dublin’s Trinity College on Wednesday March 9th as part of Israeli Apartheid Week 2011 in an event organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign. On Thursday 7th July the Irish Ship To Gaza Campaign hosted a public meeting featuring returnees from Freedom Flotilla II talking about the achievements of the Flotilla Movement and future actions for building solidarity with Palestine. The talk took place in the Connolly Room in Dublin’s Liberty Hall and over 50 people were in attendance.
